The Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, has backed \u201cwarrior\u201d Bruno Guimar\u00e3es to \u201cignite something different\u201d in the Premier League champions. The Brazil midfielder was introduced to fans ahead of Sunday\u2019s 3-2 defeat by Borussia Dortmund<\/a> in the Emirates Cup after completing his \u00a375m move from Newcastle.<\/p>\n

The 28-year-old, who has signed a four-year deal<\/a>, bolsters a midfield which already includes Declan Rice, Martin \u00d8degaard, Mikel Merino, Mart\u00edn Zubimendi and Eberechi Eze.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can see the immediate reaction,\u201d Arteta told the club website after Guimar\u00e3es was given a warm reception by supporters. \u201cI think he describes himself as a warrior. I think he\u2019s a warrior with a tremendous quality as well, and intuition and leadership and charisma that is going to help us. That is going to really ignite something different in the team. I think he\u2019s going to push everybody inside the team as well and that\u2019s the type of player that we need.\u201d<\/p>\n

After finishing runners-up for three successive seasons, Arsenal<\/a> ended their 22-year wait for the Premier League title last term, in addition to reaching the Champions League and Carabao Cup finals. Guimar\u00e3es watched on against Dortmund as an Ethan Nwaneri strike and a Viktor Gy\u00f6keres penalty were not enough to prevent defeat.<\/p>\n

Samuele In\u00e1cio, Konstantinos Karetsas and Joane Gadou scored for the Bundesliga side at the Emirates Stadium, before Arsenal won a pre-arranged penalty shootout 5-4.<\/p>\n

\u201cDisappointed that we lost the game,\u201d said Arteta, who gave \u00d8degaard his first minutes of pre-season following the World Cup and will welcome back his full squad on Monday. \u201cI think there were some poor moments where we were not very recognisable, especially in set-pieces and defending actions and timings that we are normally very efficient [in].<\/p>\n

\u201cSome other very, very positive attacking combinations, big chances that didn\u2019t finish in anything because of the final pass because they were completely open. But, overall, disappointed because you want to win the games in any context and today, we haven\u2019t managed to do that.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Manchester City manager, Enzo Maresca, praised the impact of his wide players after Antoine Semenyo supplied \u2060assists for Omar Marmoush in a 3-1 victory over Atl\u00e9tico Madrid<\/a> to wrap up their preseason tour \u2060of Asia.<\/p>\n

Marmoush scored \u2060twice in \u200bthe space of three minutes early in the second half before substitute Rayan A\u00eft-Nouri added a third in stoppage \u2060time, helping City overturn a half-time deficit in front of more than 50,000 fans at Seoul World Cup Stadium.<\/p>\n

Semenyo finished the Asia tour with four assists in \u200bthree matches, while Savinho also impressed on the opposite flank. A\u00eft-Nouri completed the scoring late on, but Maresca said City still needed greater efficiency in front of goal.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need to be clinical. It\u2019s something we need to improve,\u201d he said. \u201cSlowly we \u2060are getting there and with Erling (Haaland) we can be even more \u200bdangerous. Today Omar \u200bscored twice. This is a \u200bboost.\u201d<\/p>\n
