Square Enix has shared its latest financial report<\/a> for the first quarter of the fiscal year (thanks for the heads up, Automaton<\/a>), and what do you know, profits are up \u2014 substantially so.<\/p>\n

The report shows that the company’s operating profit in the three-month period ending June 2026 came in at \u00a517,008 million, an 88.6% rise since the same quarter last year. All parts of the business helped contribute to the increase, though the Digital Entertainment (games) sector made up the lion’s share, with a 51.8% increase in net sales and a 91.8% increase in operating profit.<\/p>\n

Square Enix specifically calls out the “solid performance” of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth<\/a> and The Adventures of Elliot<\/a> for leading the charge on the game sales front, and Final Fantasy XIV<\/a> got its flowers, too, even if its profit increase wasn’t quite as spectacular \u2014 we’ll see if the new Switch 2 version keeps the positives coming in the next quarter.<\/p>\n

It all puts the company in a rather solid position going forward, especially considering that it still has a bunch of titles in the pipeline for Switch 2, including Final Fantasy Resonance<\/a>, Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World<\/a>, Revelation<\/a> and those Dragon Quest XI<\/a>, Octopath<\/a> and Kingdom Hearts<\/a> re-releases.<\/p>\n

Surely that means we won’t be seeing any more Square Enix layoffs<\/a> this year, right?… Right??<\/p>\n
