\n\tJulie Andrews<\/a> is confirming that she will not appear in Princess Diaries 3. <\/p>\n

\n\tIn an interview with The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> alongside her daughter Emma Walton Hamilton about their new children\u2019s book Shy, the actress explained why she doesn\u2019t see herself returning for the third film with Anne Hathaway.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI think the absolute truth is that I think I\u2019m really past all that now,\u201d Andrews told THR. \u201cI\u2019m not completely retired, but it\u2019s a different kind of work that I do these days \u2014 [writing] books, and I do a lot of recording of podcasts and voiceovers. But truly, I don\u2019t think I should be a part of it.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tThough Andrews says it\u2019s \u201cstill lovely to be working on things,\u201d she prefers not doing work \u201cnecessarily on camera.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt isn\u2019t that I\u2019m not enthusiastic for it. It\u2019s just that I really don\u2019t feel I should be part of it now,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n

\n\tWhen asked what she\u2019d like to see the third film explore, Andrews said she wasn\u2019t sure but noted Hathaway is older now too from the second film. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cActually don\u2019t know. I think it proceeds from the second Princess Diaries. It moves on, but by now Annie too is a little older than she was when she did it. I\u2019m interested to see what Meg [Cabot] and Annie and everybody comes up with,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe original Princess Diaries film recently celebrated its 25th anniversary. When asked what surprises her the most about its longevity all these years later, Andrews told THR, \u201cI\u2019ve not really given it thought that way. I mean, I\u2019m thrilled, and it was well-made by dear Garry Marshall, who was the sweetest director you could imagine and funny and talented and considerate. So it was a very enjoyable film to make.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIt was announced in 2024 that a third film will see\u00a0Anne Hathaway<\/a> reprise her role as Mia Thermopolis, Queen of Genovia.\u00a0For the third installment, Adele Lim (Crazy Rich Asians,\u00a0Joy Ride)\u00a0will direct<\/a>\u00a0the feature. Debra Martin Chase, one of the producers of the original, returns to produce. Naia Cucukov, who is Lim\u2019s producing partner, is an executive producer, as is Melissa Stack.\u00a0 <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe fairy tale continues,\u201d\u00a0Hathaway wrote<\/a>\u00a0on her Instagram back when the third film was initially announced.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI read a script, and it was amazing. I told them not to send anymore, because I love it so much,\u201d Princess Diaries author Cabot told THR<\/a> of the film. \u201cThey don\u2019t like it when you tell people what\u2019s gonna happen yet. So I was like, \u2018Better not send me any more scripts!\u2019\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tDespite the third film being recently announced, Cabot told THR that discussions to return to\u00a0The Princess Diaries<\/a>\u00a0universe never really stopped: \u201cIt has been in discussions for a really long time. There have been a lot of scripts, and I think this one that I most recently read is my favorite. Fingers crossed that\u2019s the one they\u2019re going to use, but it\u2019s a really fun idea, and I\u2019m 100 percent behind it.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tDuring a recent appearance on\u00a0SiriusXM\u2019s\u00a0Radio Andy<\/a>, Hathaway was asked by host Andy Cohen for an update on the film. However, she confirmed things have paused amid her pregnancy. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019m busy making baby No. 3 and that has sort of taken the place of knowing exactly when I can make\u00a0Princess Diaries 3,\u201d Hathaway said. \u201cBut I can say I think we had a story breakthrough. I think we are moving in the right direction. The script that we were working on \u2014 we kind of had to start over with this new direction, which is not the update I think anybody wants, but we all feel really good that this is gonna be the one.\u201d <\/p>\n
