{"id":735374,"date":"2026-08-12T07:04:16","date_gmt":"2026-08-12T07:04:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/735374\/"},"modified":"2026-08-12T07:04:16","modified_gmt":"2026-08-12T07:04:16","slug":"championship-rugby-league-club-meet-rfl-as-2027-future-discussed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/735374\/","title":{"rendered":"Championship rugby league club meet RFL as 2027 future discussed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img width=\"2400\" height=\"1620\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/RFL_Offices_Etihad-011.jpg\" class=\"attachment- size- wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"  \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Championship club North Wales Crusaders have held meetings with the Rugby Football League about their future, with their 2027 licence addressed.<\/p>\n<p>The Crusaders are one of several clubs to fall into financial difficulties in 2026, even forfeiting a number of games at a point where it looked certain that they would go under.<\/p>\n<p>That was avoided as former owner Jamie Elkaleh formed part of a rescue company, NW Rugby League 26 Limited, that was<a href=\"https:\/\/www.seriousaboutrl.com\/rugby-league-news-rfl-statement-huge-points-deduction-to-north-wales-crusaders-114992\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> permitted by the RFL to take over North Wales\u2019 membership for 2026<\/a> and effectively save the club.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, that came at a cost as the Crusaders were deducted 12 points and also had a sustainability player cap imposed upon them. Prior to that, the Crusaders had forfeited two games and they\u2019ve since lost every match, conceding an average of 94.7 points per game in those 11 games.<\/p>\n<p>The<a href=\"https:\/\/www.seriousaboutrl.com\/rugby-league-news-rfl-statement-huge-points-deduction-to-north-wales-crusaders-114992\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> RFL statement in early May<\/a> also confirmed: \u201cAny future participation is conditional on a comprehensive business plan being provided to the governing body before being admitted for the 2027 fixture list.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It seems those discussions are now underway with the Crusaders taking to social media to confirm that representatives have met with the sport\u2019s governing body.<\/p>\n<p>The Wheels Have Fallen Off At Castleford!
