Yesterday the UK enjoyed what\u2019s been described as its most dramatic eclipse in 30 years<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Well, many would argue that Collins \u2013 or whoever\u2019s in charge of the dictionary \u2013 needs to change the definition of the word \u2018dramatic\u2019 because they felt the whole thing was rather underwhelming.<\/p>\n

Indeed, if you were to take a glance at social media<\/a> this morning, you\u2019ll find a cavalcade of complainants all moaning that the eclipse was a letdown and not as spectacular as they\u2019d hoped.\u00a0<\/p>\n

And none were more disappointed than the monarch of moaning, the king of complaining, the grand poobah of gripes: Jeremy Clarkson<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Yes, the popular car enthusiast-turned-professional muck spreader couldn\u2019t help but take to Instagram<\/a> to let his legion of followers know how disappointed he found the alignment of the cosmos<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u2018So annoying,\u2019 he captioned a picture of the sun. \u2018We didn\u2019t get the eclipse<\/a> in Chipping Norton.\u2019<\/p>\n

This inevitably prompted a wave of replies, many of whom couldn\u2019t wait to tell Clarkson that he hadn\u2019t missed out.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u2018You\u2019ve not missed much,\u2019 wrote tux_linux. \u2018Just a little less sun. Also, it\u2019s evening where the sun is going down anyway. Not even close to the dark like \u201999.\u2019<\/p>\n

Andycoult80 agreed, writing: \u2018It was nowhere near 90%, so too bright. I only got a decent picture with 3 pairs of sunnies over my phone camera. Normal camera looked just like your [photo].\u2019<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, owensuperconfidential joked it was: \u2018The worst eclipse \u2026. In the world.\u2019<\/p>\n

Now, far be it from us to point out that the eclipse was visible from where Jeremy lives in Chipping Norton and the Cotswolds.<\/p>\n

In fact, a lot of Clarkson\u2019s fans pointed out they\u2019d got a lovely view of it from his pub, which is just 12 miles from his farm.\u00a0<\/p>\n

That said, because it was just a partial eclipse, it was rather difficult to see, as @sean.olford explained to Clarkson.<\/p>\n

\u2018All parts did [get the eclipse]; you just won\u2019t see much of it because it\u2019s partial,\u2019 he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u2018Without extremely good eyewear<\/a> specifically made for looking at extremely bright things, such as welding goggles and so on, you wouldn\u2019t really notice a difference other than it being slightly less light than it would be.<\/p>\n

\u2018Phone cameras are not good at picking it up because it just shows as a glow, like the normal sun, as there is still a significant portion of the sun visible.\u2019<\/p>\n

Still, while Clarkson might have felt the whole eclipse business was a bit overblown, he\u2019s probably not that sad as today is results day.<\/p>\n

That means he gets to make his usual tweet about only having two and a half O-levels or whatever it is, which I\u2019m sure some pople still find funny. <\/p>\n

Clarkson aside, plenty of other celebs here in Blighty had a great time watching the grand cosmic ballet.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Fearne Cotton was arguably the most moved by the eclipse, sharing a small but poignant essay about how it affected her. <\/p>\n

\u2018I knew it would be magical, but that was next level,\u2019 she wrote. <\/p>\n

\u2018Here\u2019s why I cried. I was lucky enough to be on a beach where there were people from all over the world, groups of mates, families, couples, people watching quietly on their own. Every single person, no matter their background or story, stopped to stand in awe. <\/p>\n

\t\t\t\tWhy ‘rawdogging watching the eclipse’ is a bad idea\t\t\t<\/p>\n

Do you enjoy being able to see? If you answered yes,then we recommend not staring at an eclipse without protection.<\/p>\n

According to Tania de Sales Marques, a senior astronomer at the Royal Observatory Greenwich, looking at the sun (even when it\u2019s hidden behind the moon) can cause \u2018permanent\u2019 eye damage.<\/p>\n

\u2018Even during a solar eclipse, the sun\u2019s light is intense enough to harm the sensitive cells in the back of your eye,\u2019 she explained.<\/p>\n

\u2018Faces lit up. Smiles grew. We all waited for the star of the show, the moon, to slide across the sky like the sly beauty she is. We were humbled by something we usually take for granted. And we were reminded that we are just a floating ball in space with other floating balls around us.\u2019<\/p>\n

Romeo Beckham<\/a> took a break from arguing with his older brother<\/a> to watch the Eclipse (and then Arsenal) before posting a photo on his Instagram story captioned: \u2018Eclipse, and then Arsenal playing\u2026 Doesn\u2019t get better.\u2019<\/p>\n

Carol Vorderman<\/a>, meanwhile, chose to watch the whole thing from what appeared to be a river boat complete with a glass of wine (an icon).<\/p>\n

Holly Willoughby was also watching and shared a rather moody photo of herself shadowed by the light of the eclipse \u2013 maybe she couldn\u2019t get the glasses and had to make do?<\/p>\n

One person who definitely couldn\u2019t get glasses was Paddy McGuinness<\/a>, who shared pics of himself making a DIY pinhole projector with his three kids.<\/p>\n

He wasn\u2019t the only funnyman who couldn\u2019t get his mitts on safety glasses. John Bishop posted a photo of himself resorting to the old colander trick.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Undoubtedly, though, the greatest reaction to the eclipse came from Ronan Keating<\/a>, who opted to serenade the sun and moon.<\/p>\n
