{"id":736764,"date":"2026-08-13T14:38:09","date_gmt":"2026-08-13T14:38:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/736764\/"},"modified":"2026-08-13T14:38:09","modified_gmt":"2026-08-13T14:38:09","slug":"brett-randell-derbyshire-sign-seam-bowler-for-remainder-of-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/736764\/","title":{"rendered":"Brett Randell: Derbyshire sign seam bowler for remainder of season"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Derbyshire have signed history-making seam bowler Brett Randell for the remainder of the County Championship season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The 31-year-old New Zealander shot to global prominence earlier this year when he became the first bowler in the 254-year history of first-class cricket to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/cricket\/articles\/ckg3p91j42jo\" class=\"ssrcss-1fqyhkk-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">take five wickets in five balls.<\/a> <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Randell&#8217;s milestone haul came in March while playing for Central Stags against Northern Districts in New Zealand&#8217;s Plunket Shield.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He returns to the English game as an overseas recruit after featuring for Somerset in 2024, and slots into the Derbyshire side as a replacement for Muhammad Abbas who is away on international duty with Pakistan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Brett has that quality, he&#8217;s an experienced seamer who will complement our group really nicely as we challenge for promotion in the final six games,&#8221; Derbyshire head of cricket Mickey Arthur told <a href=\"https:\/\/derbyshireccc.com\/\" class=\"ssrcss-1fqyhkk-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the club website., external<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Derbyshire are fifth in the County Championship Division Two table with three wins and four defeats from their eight matches so far.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Derbyshire have signed history-making seam bowler Brett Randell for the remainder of the County Championship season.
