Staff were described as being kind and caring and we saw people looked clean and well-presented.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Inspectors found residents felt safe, were treated with kindness and had good access to healthcare.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  However, its Well-led rating fell fromgood to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theboltonnews.co.uk\/news\/25812790.bolton-homecare-provider-rated-requires-improvement-watchdog-rules\/?ref=ed_direct\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Requires Improvement<\/a> after the watchdog identified shortcomings in the home&#8217;s governance.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Spennymoor retained good ratings for safe, sffective, caring andresponsive, with the caring section receiving its highest score of 75 out of 100.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Inspectors found people were treated with kindness, empathy and compassion and had their privacy and dignity respected.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  One relative said: \u201cI think it is good, there is a smile on people&#8217;s faces, so they are doing something right. We don\u2019t worry about people in this home.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Another said their relative looked \u201cclean and smart\u201d, while residents themselves said staff treated them kindly and respectfully.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  People could choose how they spent their day, what clothes they wanted to wear and when they got up or went to bed.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Recruitment checks were carried out before staff began working at the home and employees said they received sufficient training and regular supervision.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The home was also found to be clean, with equipment well maintained and no unpleasant smells.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Inspectors saw staff cleaning during their visit, while regular infection-control audits were carried out and hand-washing facilities were readily available.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  People had access to healthcare professionals when required, with health professionals visiting weekly to review residents&#8217; needs and district nurses seen at the home during the inspection.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Inspectors also visited during very hot weather and saw windows being opened and fans used to keep residents comfortable.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theboltonnews.co.uk\/topics\/care-quality-commission-cqc\/?ref=ed_direct\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">CQC<\/a> also highlighted shortcomings in some care records.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The home was using an older care planning system, which inspectors said was limited in its ability to record sufficient details about residents&#8217; care.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Some information relating to eating and drinking, skin integrity, communication and personal care was missing.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The provider acknowledged the gaps and said the records would be updated.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Inspectors also raised an issue around accessible information after identifying a resident who was registered blind and experienced blurred vision but did not have information available in alternative formats.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The provider was asked to explore ways of ensuring the resident&#8217;s needs were fully met.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The CQC concluded that improvements were needed to the home&#8217;s governance systems so issues could be identified and acted upon.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Spennymoor Care Home based in Smithills was inspected by the health watchdog, the CQC.
