Community and hard work were the real currency of survival there,” he said.

According to him, the discipline and values instilled by his parents, particularly his father, have remained central to his development as an entrepreneur, husband and father.

Nwaobia said his decision to venture into entrepreneurship was motivated partly by a desire to create greater freedom and flexibility for his family while also providing opportunities for young people.

“I wanted the freedom that comes with building something of my own so I could find the time to raise my children, to be present with my wife, and the platform to help other young people become productively engaged,” he said.

He explained that his entrepreneurial journey began with the establishment of Geplex International Services Ltd, initially focused on logistics and import consultancy, before expanding into other areas, including affordable luxury housing in Lagos and agriculture.

Nwaobia said the objective was to build a business recognised for reliability, quality and integrity.

“I started Geplex to bridge the gap between local potential and global standards. I didn’t want to build a company that was only about profit. I wanted to build one that was about reliability,” he said.

He identified trust and perception as some of the biggest challenges confronting entrepreneurs operating across different markets, noting that earning the confidence of clients and business partners requires consistency.

“Earning the confidence of clients and partners across different markets takes time, and you have to prove it consistently,” he said.

He added that regulatory uncertainty and infrastructure challenges have also required businesses to remain adaptable without compromising their standards.

On leadership, Nwaobia said effective leadership should be measured by influence and the ability to inspire people to improve themselves rather than by titles or positions.

“True leadership is not about title. It is about influence and about moving people toward becoming more than they currently are,” he said.

The entrepreneur said integrity, family happiness, creativity, personal development and health remain values he would not compromise, regardless of the pressures associated with business.

His interest in leadership has also taken him back to academia. Nwaobia holds an MRes in Leadership and Strategy from the University of Greater Manchester and is currently a PhD candidate at Greater Manchester Business School, where he is researching how digital leadership can drive AI-powered revenue collection.

He said his academic work reflects the need for leaders and entrepreneurs to continually reinvent themselves as technology transforms the business environment.

Beyond his corporate and academic activities, Nwaobia founded the Geplex Youth Foundation, an initiative focused on developing young leaders and helping young people become productively engaged.

He said his interest in youth development is connected to his broader belief that leadership should extend beyond personal success to creating opportunities for others.

As a father of four, Nwaobia also said family remains central to his understanding of success and legacy.

“I want to leave behind a body of work that shows the next generation what is possible when you build with both ambition and integrity,” he said.

He urged young Africans seeking to become entrepreneurs not to wait for perfect economic or social conditions before starting their ventures.

“The biggest mistake you can make is waiting for perfect conditions before you start. Start with what you already have and start from where you are,” he said.

Nwaobia also encouraged young entrepreneurs to embrace rejection, describing it as an inevitable part of the process of building a successful business.

“Every ‘no’ is a lesson in disguise,” he said.

He further advised aspiring entrepreneurs to focus on solving genuine problems within their communities instead of simply copying existing business models.

“Look at your community, your street, your village. If you fix a real problem, the money will follow,” he said.

He stressed that integrity should remain at the heart of every business, particularly in an environment where personal reputation can significantly influence commercial relationships.

“In Africa, your name is your currency. If you lose your reputation, you have lost your business,” Nwaobia said.

For the entrepreneur, sustainable success ultimately comes from choosing long-term impact over short-term gains and building businesses and institutions capable of creating value beyond their founders.

“The best investments you make in life are the investments to improve your ability to think,” he said, adding that excellence, diligence and consistency remain essential to building a meaningful legacy.

Ezechimere Jesse Nwaobia, a Nigerian entrepreneur and leadership strategist, has said entrepreneurship should be driven by purpose, integrity…

[15
84,4203,56,54,55
post-739266","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-entrepreneurship","tag-business","tag-entrepreneurship","tag-uk","tag-united-kingdom","tag-unitedkingdom
["GET
