An referee who debuted in Super League earlier this year is facing around twelve months on the sidelines after suffering a serious knee injury.<\/p>\n

Cameron Worsley, from Castleford, is Betfred Super League\u2019s newest referee having made his debut in June<\/a> when he took charge of the round 16 game between Catalans Dragons and Huddersfield Giants in Perpignan.<\/p>\n

He is set for surgery and a long recovery after fully rupturing an anterior cruciate ligament (acl) and suffering a tear to the lateral and medial meniscus.<\/p>\n

The injury is a huge blow for one of refereeing\u2019s rising stars who has worked his way up to the top-flight despite being part-time.<\/p>\n

Super League official suffers cruel injury<\/p>\n

The 25-year-old is a PE teacher at Airedale Academy in Castleford and was this year named in the new Super League referees development squad, alongside Matty Lynn, Scott Mikalauskas and Ryan Cox.<\/p>\n

He was promoted to the RFL\u2019s list of grade one officials in 2019 and has been in the middle for more than 100 Championship fixtures, as well as gaining experience as a touch judge in Super League.<\/p>\n

At the time of his promotion to Super League, RFL head of match officials Phil Bentham said his elevation was \u201crichly deserved after the consistent progress he has made as a member of our grade one list of match officials over the last seven seasons\u201d.<\/p>\n
