{"id":740636,"date":"2026-08-17T08:30:10","date_gmt":"2026-08-17T08:30:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/740636\/"},"modified":"2026-08-17T08:30:10","modified_gmt":"2026-08-17T08:30:10","slug":"golf-club-in-welwyn-garden-city-wins-fight-against-redevelopment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/740636\/","title":{"rendered":"Golf club in Welwyn Garden City wins fight against redevelopment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The council said the consultation found strong support for improved leisure facilities in Welwyn Garden City.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">However views were divided about Panshanger Golf Club as a potential site.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">It had been chosen because it is council-owned and feasibility work suggested housing was a potential way to help fund the new facilities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The council said the town does not currently have its own public swimming pool, and demand for swimming and indoor sports was expected to grow.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Max Holloway, executive member for community and leisure, said &#8220;there was no clear support for the Panshanger Golf Club site, alongside some concern about new homes&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He added the authority would continue to work to find the right ways to deliver both leisure facilities and good homes for the borough.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Sandreni Bonfante, deputy leader of the council, thanked everyone that completed the survey or attended the drop-in sessions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Do you have a story suggestion for Beds, Herts or Bucks?
