{"id":740869,"date":"2026-08-17T14:12:12","date_gmt":"2026-08-17T14:12:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/740869\/"},"modified":"2026-08-17T14:12:12","modified_gmt":"2026-08-17T14:12:12","slug":"consultation-ending-on-controversial-rosebank-oil-field","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/740869\/","title":{"rendered":"Consultation ending on controversial Rosebank oil field"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Prime Minister Andy Burnham is coming under pressure over the decisions about both Rosebank and Jackdaw.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Visiting victims of the West Midlands wildfire on Friday, he told BBC Five Live that there needs to be a focus on adapting to the changing climate, including considering aerial firefighting resources.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">But he said there needs to be a &#8220;pragmatic approach&#8221; towards domestic oil and gas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He added: &#8220;We won&#8217;t be able to stop using oil and gas for some time.  That&#8217;s just a fact.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;The question is whether we can accelerate use of it so that we pay for the transition.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The consultation on Jackdaw <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/ce85ng9vj90o\" class=\"ssrcss-1e0jzsh-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">closed last week<\/a> and the Rosebank consultation ends later on Monday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Ultimately the decision is a quasi-legal one which will be taken by the regulator Opred and approved by the Energy Secretary Miatta Fahnbulleh.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Although no timetable has been set for the final decision, the operator says a relatively quick decision could see the Jackdaw field producing gas by the winter.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Prime Minister Andy Burnham is coming under pressure over the decisions about both Rosebank and Jackdaw.
