{"id":742264,"date":"2026-08-18T21:44:13","date_gmt":"2026-08-18T21:44:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/742264\/"},"modified":"2026-08-18T21:44:13","modified_gmt":"2026-08-18T21:44:13","slug":"three-dead-after-family-get-into-difficulty-in-water-off-shoreham-by-sea-west-sussex","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/742264\/","title":{"rendered":"Three dead after family get into difficulty in water off Shoreham-by-Sea | West Sussex"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">A couple and their teenage daughter have died after getting into difficulty in the sea off the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/uk-news\/west-sussex\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">West Sussex<\/a> coast, police said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">A man, a woman and a teenage girl died after the incident in Shoreham-by-Sea, the chief superintendent of Sussex police, James Collis, said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">A younger girl from the same family was taken to hospital in a critical condition, Collis added. The next of kin have been informed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">Collis said it is understood that all four entered the water from land for a swim and \u201csadly got into difficulty\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">He added: \u201cOur thoughts are with the friends and family. I know this incident will have a profound effect on the community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1s160rg\">Emergency services, including land and air ambulances, were called at about 2.40pm to reports of four people in difficulty in the sea.
