{"id":742332,"date":"2026-08-18T23:12:09","date_gmt":"2026-08-18T23:12:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/742332\/"},"modified":"2026-08-18T23:12:09","modified_gmt":"2026-08-18T23:12:09","slug":"firefighters-tackle-blaze-at-bermondsey-waste-centre","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/742332\/","title":{"rendered":"Firefighters tackle blaze at Bermondsey waste centre"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">About 100 firefighters are tackling a massive blaze at a waste facility in south-east London.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Fifteen fire engines were called to Landmann Way in Bermondsey shortly before 20:00 BST after about 50 tonnes of household waste caught fire.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">London Fire Brigade (LFB) warned that a large amount of smoke was being produced by the blaze and advised local residents to keep their doors and windows closed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">LFB said the cause of the fire was not yet known, but firefighters tackled a blaze at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/c3vyky7w9wwo\" class=\"ssrcss-1e0jzsh-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">same facility in June.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Speaking from the scene, station commander Duncan Rees said: &#8220;Crews are working hard in difficult conditions to bring the fire under control.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He added that a 32m ladder and a 64m ladder were being used to tackle the flames from above.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"About 100 firefighters are tackling a massive blaze at a waste facility in south-east London.
