Robin Williams<\/a>\u2019 children have taken control of their late father\u2019s Instagram<\/a> account in a bid to protect his legacy from \u2018rampant AI abuse\u2019.<\/p>\n Nearly a month after what would have been the actor and comedian\u2019s 75th birthday, his three children \u2013 Zak, Zelda, and, Cody Williams \u2013 announced they are reviving the previously dormant page.<\/p>\n The Mrs Doubtfire star\u2019s account had remained inactive since his death in August 2014, but will now become an official archive where fans can find genuine photographs, footage and memories of Williams.<\/p>\n Explaining their decision in a joint statement shared on Monday, his children said they hoped the page could become a \u2018safe, trusted place\u2019 as artificial intelligence makes it increasingly difficult to distinguish genuine footage from fabricated content.<\/p>\n \u2018We\u2019re grateful to see new generations discovering his work while longtime fans continue to celebrate the joy he brought into their lives,\u2019 they wrote.<\/p>\n \u2018As technology evolves, we want this to be a safe, trusted place where the stories, photos, videos, and memories shared reflect his legacy with authenticity, warmth, and care.\u2019<\/p>\n \t\t They added that the account would allow them to share their father\u2019s \u2018unique talent and humor\u2019 alongside the moments that made both his family and millions of fans laugh.<\/p>\n \u2018He continues to inspire us and delight people all over the world,\u2019 they concluded.<\/p>\n Williams\u2019 daughter Zelda, 37, later acknowledged that seeing activity suddenly return to her father\u2019s social media<\/a> page could be unsettling for some fans after more than a decade.<\/p>\n Writing on her own Instagram Story, she admitted: \u2018Believe me, I know it\u2019s a little strange.\u2019<\/p>\n However, she explained that establishing an easily identifiable source of authentic material had become increasingly important as AI-generated impersonations of her father spread online.<\/p>\n \t\t \u2018Making that space into one where people can find authentic clips and photos of him is one of the best ways we\u2019ve now found to fight back against rampant AI abuse of his voice and likeness on here,\u2019 she said.<\/p>\n The move comes amid growing concern over increasingly convincing AI-generated videos, photographs and audio recordings depicting both living and dead celebrities.<\/p>\n Williams, whose extraordinary career included Good Will Hunting, Dead Poets Society, Aladdin<\/a> and Good Morning, Vietnam, has been among the stars whose voices and likenesses have been recreated without their families\u2019 permission.<\/p>\n And it is far from the first time Zelda has publicly condemned people using AI to digitally resurrect her father.<\/p>\n \t\t Last October, Zelda issued a furious plea after people repeatedly sent her AI-generated videos featuring Williams, asking them to \u2018stop doing this to him and to me\u2019.<\/p>\n She made clear she did not see the technology as a touching way of remembering her father, describing the creations as \u2018TikTok<\/a> slop\u2019 that reduced the legacy of a real person to an approximation of how they looked and sounded.<\/p>\n \u2018It\u2019s dumb, it\u2019s a waste of time and energy, and believe me, it\u2019s NOT what he\u2019d want,\u2019 she wrote at the time.<\/p>\n \t\t She added that watching \u2018the legacies of real people\u2019 being reduced to something that merely \u2018vaguely looks and sounds like them\u2019 was \u2018maddening\u2019.<\/p>\n Zelda had already spoken out about the issue during the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, when the use of artificial intelligence and digital replicas became a major battleground between performers and Hollywood studios.<\/p>\n At the time, she revealed that she had heard AI models being trained to recreate her father\u2019s voice and described the experience as \u2018personally disturbing\u2019.<\/p>\n \t\t She argued that even the most sophisticated recreations could only ever be \u2018a poor facsimile\u2019 of the real people they imitated.<\/p>\n At their worst, she said, they became a \u2018horrendous Frankensteinian monster\u2019 assembled by technology rather than reflecting the humanity and creativity that made the original performer special.<\/p>\n Williams died by suicide aged 63 on August 11, 2014.<\/p>\n More than a decade later, his children are now hoping his revived social media presence can ensure that as technology changes, fans looking for Robin Williams online can still find the real thing.<\/p>\n Arrow Arrow Arrow![\"Robin](\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/SEI_308808306-d296.jpg\")
