plans for the 11-12 St James&#8217;s Square site<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"lazyloaded \" alt=\"\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/2036108_external1_776691.jpg\" width=\"1622\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"lazyloaded \" alt=\"\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/2036109_internal1scaled_651318.png\" width=\"1812\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"lazyloaded \" alt=\"\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/2036111_internal4scaled_50622.jpg\" width=\"1809\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"lazyloaded \" alt=\"\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/2036110_screenshot20251016100736_40024.png\" width=\"649\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"lazyloaded \" alt=\"\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/2036112_internal2scaled_161054.jpg\" width=\"1807\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Westminster council has unanimously approved Foster + Partners\u2019 designs for a refurbishment of a listed townhouse site on St James\u2019s Square as the head office of a science institue set up by the world\u2019s sixth richest man.<\/p>\n<p>The Ellison Institute of Technology (EIT) is an advanced research body set up by\u00a0Larry Ellison, the former chief executive of software company Oracle Corporation and a close ally of Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<p>EIT, which describes itself as multi-disciplinary science institute, is currently building\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bdonline.co.uk\/news\/fosters-reveals-new-images-of-oxford-randd-campus\/5125786.article\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">a \u00a3300m science research facility<\/a> in Oxford that has been designed by Fosters with the first phase being built by Laing O\u2019Rourke.<\/p>\n<p class=\"picture\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"larry\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/2036105_larry_772688.jpg\"  loading=\"lazy\" class=\"lazyloaded\" width=\"1000\" height=\"562\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The organisation\u2019s London headquarters will transform two grade II and grade II*-listed buildings at 11-12 St James\u2019s Square and rebuild an extension to the rear of the site that was completed in 1990.<\/p>\n<p>The scheme would retrofit the existing historic buildings and knock down the rear extension,\u00a0adding new lifts, showers, cycle storage space, new glazed facades and terraces and reinstating a historic garden at ground level.<\/p>\n<p>The job, which has been described as \u201cvery high spec\u201d, is understood to have a price tag of around \u00a3120m.<\/p>\n<p>Other firms working on the plan, which was sent in to Westminster city council in January, include development manager Edit, planning consultant Avison Young, heritage consultant Donald Insall Associates and project manager Ridge.<\/p>\n<p>Building Design understands Sir Robert McAlpine is due to build the scheme after beating Multiplex for the main contractor role.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Full screen in popup Fosters&#8217;
