{"id":745707,"date":"2026-08-22T02:18:12","date_gmt":"2026-08-22T02:18:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/745707\/"},"modified":"2026-08-22T02:18:12","modified_gmt":"2026-08-22T02:18:12","slug":"uk-extends-reach-registration-deadlines-through-2031","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/745707\/","title":{"rendered":"UK Extends REACH Registration Deadlines Through 2031"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On 6 August 2026, the United Kingdom (UK) government\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.legislation.gov.uk\/uksi\/2026\/849\/contents\/made\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">extended<\/a>\u00a0the UK Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) transitional deadlines for any company manufacturing or importing chemicals into Great Britain (England, Scotland, and Wales).\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hse.gov.uk\/reach\/grandfathering-registrations.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Grandfathered substances<\/a>\u00a0now have one of the following deadlines depending upon the hazardous properties and tonnage band.<\/p>\n<p>27 October 2029:<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>Substances that are manufactured or imported at or above 1,000 metric tonnes per year (mt\/y);<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Substances that are manufactured or imported at or above one mt\/y and classified as carcinogenic, mutagenic, or toxic for reproduction (CMR);<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Substances that are manufactured or imported at or above 100 mt\/y and classified as very toxic to aquatic organisms (acute or chronic); and<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Substances of very high concern (SVHC) on the Candidate List before 31 December 2023.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>27 October 2030:<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>Substances that are manufactured or imported at or above 100 mt\/y; and<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>SVHCs added to the Candidate List between 1 January 2024 and\u00a027 October 2026.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>27 October 2031:<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>Substances manufactured or imported at or above one mt\/y.<\/p>\n<p>The extension was granted to allow the UK government time to develop and legislate the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/uk-reach-alternative-transitional-registration-model-atrm\/uk-reach-alternative-transitional-registration-model-atrm#next-steps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Alternative Transitional Registration model (ATRm)<\/a>, that aims to reduce the data and financial burdens on businesses. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has aligned its compliance review timelines with these revised dates.<\/p>\n<p>If you are a Great Britian-based downstream user or distributor of a European Union (EU)-registered substance, you should have submitted a downstream user import notification (DUIN) previously. This notifies your\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hse.gov.uk\/reach\/duin.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">status<\/a>\u00a0and defers your registration obligation to the deadlines outlined above.
