Weapons took decisive care of its competition for a second week in a row at the box office<\/a>. The twisty missing-children mystery from Barbarian<\/a> director Zach Cregger<\/a> followed up on its impressive $42.5 million U.S. premiere<\/a> with a $25 million weekend two take. Globally, the film earned $43.4 million, handing it the crown both at home and abroad.<\/p>\n

Last week, Weapons smoked Disney’s widely publicized nostalgia sequel Freakier Friday in their debuts to the tune of $13.5 million. That gap slightly narrowed this week, with the Lindsay Lohan<\/a> and Jamie Lee Curtis<\/a> comedy taking in $14.5 million domestically, earning it the No. 2 spot, and $23.8 globally, where it fell to No. 5.<\/p>\n

The sequel to Bob Odenkirk<\/a>‘s 2021 comedic hit parade, literally \u2014 the punch- and slap-filled Nobody, also fell short of the gold this week, earning No. 3 in its premiere with a domestic haul of $9.2 million and No. 2 globally with $32 million.<\/p>\n

The Fantastic Four: First Steps<\/a>, Marvel’s big summer tentpole and the first headlining team-up of the beloved comic squad since 2015, continues to slow its pace in its fourth week of release. The super-flick starring Pedro Pascal<\/a>,\u00a0Vanessa Kirby<\/a>,\u00a0Ebon Moss-Bachrach<\/a>,\u00a0and\u00a0Joseph Quinn<\/a>\u00a0earned $8.8 million domestically and $18 million globally, where it fell to the very bottom of the top 10.<\/p>\n

That film now boasts a $247 million domestic haul, nothing to thumb your nose at, but nothing compared to the DCU’s big Marvel counterprogramming for the summer season, Superman<\/a>. The Man of Steel film is holding strong domestically with a $5.2 million take in week 6, grabbing a $340 million haul.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere on the global leaderboard, Japan’s dark animated fantasy Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle opened to $31.3 million, totaling a staggering $192.2 million from only nine markets. That earns the latest entry in the anime franchise the title of highest-ever animated opening in the region, surpassing Frozen II and\u00a0Inside Out 2.<\/p>\n

Looking ahead, Weapons has a decent shot at a three-peat if it can withstand the whallops of a Jude Law<\/a> thriller and a saucy Aubrey Plaza<\/a>–Margaret Qualley<\/a> caper.<\/p>\n

Next weekend sees the opening of Eden, Ron Howard’s survival thriller based on the true story of a group of European \u00e9migr\u00e9s whose lives erupt in chaos after settling in the Gal\u00e1pagos. Law is joined by Ana de Armas<\/a>, Sydney Sweeney<\/a>, and Fantastic Four’s Kirby in the cast. Also opening is Honey Don’t!,<\/a> the latest solo endeavor from Ethan Coen<\/a> and starring Qualley, Chris Evans,<\/a> and Plaza in her return to the big screen after the death<\/a>\u00a0of her husband, Jeff Baena.<\/p>\n
