Domestic ticket sales are behind the franchise’s prior entry, 2023’s “The Red Door,” with $33 million. However, the paranormal sequel cost just $18 million to produce, so it won’t require a huge turnout to reap box office rewards. “Insidious” revolves around a purgatorial place inhabited by the tortured spirits of the dead, and it’s been commercially successful for Sony and Blumhouse, with the five prior installments having generated a combined $800 million worldwide against low budgets. While the 2013 sequel “Insidious: Chapter 2” maintains the record for the biggest debut in the franchise with $40 million, “The Red Door” ranks as the highest-grossing installment to date with $189 million worldwide.

“The drop from [the previous installment’s] opening in July 2023 is substantial but typical of these sequels,” says David A.
