{"id":750119,"date":"2026-08-26T08:26:13","date_gmt":"2026-08-26T08:26:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/750119\/"},"modified":"2026-08-26T08:26:13","modified_gmt":"2026-08-26T08:26:13","slug":"libyan-who-was-cleared-after-lockerbie-bombing-trial-dies-aged-70","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/750119\/","title":{"rendered":"Libyan who was cleared after Lockerbie bombing trial dies aged 70"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">A Libyan who was cleared after standing trial over the Lockerbie bombing has died aged 70.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Al Amin Khalifah Fhimah was accused of murdering 270 people in the attack on Pan Am Flight 103 in December 1988.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He was found not guilty but a second Libyan, Abdulbasset Al Megrahi, was convicted of playing a key role in the bombing of the American airliner.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">A Facebook post by Libyan Airlines announced Fhimah&#8217;s death and expressed the company&#8217;s condolences to his family.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Fhimah worked for the carrier in Malta before the bombing of Pan Am 103.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">His funeral is set to take place on Wednesday in Tripoli, the capital of Libya.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A Libyan who was cleared after standing trial over the Lockerbie bombing has died aged 70.
