\n An update from the chief executive officer for the Isle of Wight and Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS trusts, Penny Emerit, has been released ahead of a board meeting on Wednesday (August 26).\n<\/p>\n
\n Both bodies are running with \u2018significantly higher\u2019 occupancy levels than planned and the sustained spell of high heatwave temperatures has brought the severity of patient conditions \u2018well above\u2019 expected levels for the time of year, she said.\n<\/p>\n
\n The CEO said the two organisations are operating with \u2018significant\u2019 numbers of patients who no longer meet the criteria to reside (CtR).\n<\/p>\n
\n CtR is used to support the decision as to whether a patient needs ongoing care which can only be provided in an acute hospital, according to the NHS.\n<\/p>\n
\n Ms Emerit\u2019s report says occupancy has not de-escalated over the summer as planned and there continues to be use of surge and escalation capacity as well as corridor care.\n<\/p>\n
\n Another issue raised is staff wellbeing and resilience.\n<\/p>\n
\n The document flags \u2018persistent operational strains\u2019 that continue to impact on motivation and engagement.\n<\/p>\n
\n Operational pressure through summer and working in heatwave conditions has added to strain.\n<\/p>\n
