Charged particles from the sun are guided by Earth\u2019s magnetic field toward these high-latitude regions, forming an \u201cauroral oval\u201d around the poles. If the two arrive together, their combined effects could intensify geomagnetic activity and improve the chances of seeing the much-coveted Northern Lights.<\/p>\n<p>What Is a Solar Flare?<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-module-scss-module__0ovlkG__blockParagraph\" blockindex=\"17\" articletitle=\"Map Shows Where Northern Lights Could Dazzle Skies After Solar Flare\">A solar flare is an intense explosion of radiation released when magnetic energy stored in the sun&#8217;s atmosphere is suddenly unleashed. <a href=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/sun\/solar-storms-and-flares\/?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">NASA explains<\/a> that flares are classified as A, B, C, M and X, with each category representing roughly a tenfold increase in intensity.
