The PGA Tour has suspended a player on the Champions Tour for breaching gambling rules.<\/p>\n
Matt Gogel was found to have violated the tour\u2019s integrity program by betting on golf and will now be on the sidelines for six months.<\/p>\n
\u201cPGA Tour\u00a0Champions member Matt Gogel has been suspended for violating the PGA Tour\u00a0Integrity Program,\u201d\u00a0a statement from the US circuit read.\u00a0\u201cGogel placed bets on PGA Tour\u00a0competition but did not bet on tournaments in which he was a participant.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Gogel, 55, is a one-time winner on tour at the 2002 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. He is a regular on the over-50 Champions circuit, making 18 starts this year and notably finishing joint runner-up at last month\u2019s ISPS Handa Senior Open.<\/p>\n
The Tour said Gogel co-operated throughout the disciplinary process.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn 2024 and 2025, I unknowingly violated the PGA Tour policy by placing small recreational wagers on golf,\u201d Gogel said in his own statement. \u201cI want to be clear that these wagers were not placed on regular PGA Tour events, PGA Tour Champions events or any tournament in which I participated.<\/p>\n
\u201cI would never knowingly violate the integrity of the game of golf. I made an honest mistake, and I look forward to playing in 2027 on the PGA Tour Champions.\u201d<\/p>\n
