\n\tA scientist\u2019s \u201cworst mistake is a false positive \u2014 thinking something\u2019s happening when it isn\u2019t.\u201d But in the official trailer for Prime Video<\/a>\u2019s upcoming film adaptation of Ali Hazelwood\u2019s bestseller The Love Hypothesis<\/a>, starring Lili Reinhart<\/a> and Tom Bateman<\/a>, the platform explores what happens when there is actually something happening between two people in their own unexpected experiment.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Love Hypothesis, directed by Claire Scanlon, follows Olive (Reinhart), \u201ca brilliant Ph.D. candidate focused on her future in academia. But when she realizes her best friend Anh (Rachel Marsh) has fallen for her crush Jeremy (Nicholas Duvernay), Olive impulsively kisses intimidating professor Adam Carlsen (Bateman) to prove she\u2019s moved on.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn the trailer, Reinhart\u2018s Olive is shown spontaneously kissing Bateman\u2018s Adam \u2014 a notable Easter egg to the book cover of Hazelwood\u2018s bestseller \u2014 so her best friend Anh can see them. Despite the initial awkwardness, Olive and Adam later agree to fake date to ensure Anh will pursue things with her crush Jeremy, someone Olive once had a crush on, now knowing Olive has since moved on. Meanwhile, Adam notes the fake dating scheme could benefit him given Stanford may not be renewing his grant because they consider him a \u201cflight risk.\u201c<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cA serious girlfriend might change their minds,\u201d he tells Olive. <\/p>\n

\n\tTheir unexpected pairing shocks their peers, especially given Adam is known as \u201cDr. Evil\u201c and someone who is believed to have no \u201creal human emotions.\u201c But even though \u201cwhat begins as a desperate act of friendship spirals into a fake relationship with rules, boundaries, and a mutually beneficial agreement,\u201c the lines begin to blur for Olive and Adam on what is and isn\u2018t real when it comes to their dynamic and feelings.<\/p>\n

\n\tSarah Rothschild pens the screenplay with Elizabeth Cantillon producing. Jaboukie Young-White and Arty Froushan also star in the Amazon MGM film.<\/p>\n

\n\tWhile talking about the film at Obsessed Fest<\/a> in June, which was livestreamed on Prime Video\u2019s TikTok, Reinhart and Bateman reflected on their chemistry read, their characters and what it was like bringing the popular book to life.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe all want to see a lot more love than hate and this is that. I think it\u2019s beautiful and hopefully feels timeless and feels like a movie you can go back and watch with your friends and swoon over,\u201d Reinhart said of the film. Bateman shared the same sentiments and noted the book was \u201calways front and center\u201d for them while filming to ensure the spirit of the story was translated. <\/p>\n
