{"id":752253,"date":"2026-08-28T07:38:12","date_gmt":"2026-08-28T07:38:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/752253\/"},"modified":"2026-08-28T07:38:12","modified_gmt":"2026-08-28T07:38:12","slug":"spalding-band-sounds-force-5-who-played-bbq67-with-jimi-hendrix-pink-floyd-and-cream-to-reunite-for-60th-celebrations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/752253\/","title":{"rendered":"Spalding band Sounds Force 5 who played BBQ67 with Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd and Cream to reunite for 60th celebrations"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Musicians who played at an iconic gig will be reuniting for its 60th anniversary.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lincsonline.co.uk\/spalding\/news\/i-have-such-exciting-memories-mingling-with-jimi-hendrix-9478005\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sounds Force 5 played at BBQ67<\/a> in between major acts such as Jimi Hendrix, Cream and Pink Floyd at the Tulip Bulb Auction Hall in Spalding in May 1967 and the one-off gig has become a cultural phenomenon.<\/p>\n<p>Colin Ward, who runs Live Promotions in Spalding, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lincsonline.co.uk\/spalding\/news\/month-long-festival-planned-to-celebrate-town-s-unique-plac-9474553\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">chatted to legends backstage<\/a> and is thrilled to be performing next year at the diamond anniversary event organised by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lincsonline.co.uk\/spalding\/news\/free-event-to-support-local-musicians-9454012\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Spalding BID<\/a> and PastPresentPossible CIC.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"rthmb\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg xmlns=\" http:=\"\" viewbox=\"0 0 640 490\" alt=\"Colin Ward played at BBQ67. PHOTO: SUPPLIED<\/p>\n<p>Mr Ward, who has since had a career organising live music events featuring the likes of Jools Holland, said: \u201cWe are the only band that was on the event that can genuinely say they were there and recreate the numbers they played on the night.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is going to be a magical moment for the band and our followers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Three of the five original line-up will be performing &#8211; Mike Peacey, singer, Len Doughty, keys and Mr Ward on drums.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"rthmb\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg xmlns=\" http:=\"\" viewbox=\"0 0 1098 844\" alt=\"Sounds Force Five, Colin Ward, centre. PHOTOL SUPPLIED<\/p>\n<p>Since the legendary concert &#8211; a precursor to Woodstock and festivals today &#8211; the line-up of Sounds Force 5 went onto feature Bob Pate, bass and Jason Lunn on guitar.<\/p>\n<p>Plans for a month-long celebration next year are underway &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lincsonline.co.uk\/spalding\/news\/revving-it-up-thousands-flock-to-bikes-and-bands-event-9477762\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a bikers and bands event <\/a>has paved the way to stage next year\u2019s event- with input from Nettie Baker, who is the daughter of Cream\u2019s drummer Ginger Baker.<\/p>\n<p>She said: \u201cIt is great Sounds Force 5 they are reforming.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"rthmb\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg xmlns=\" http:=\"\" viewbox=\"0 0 1123 1334\" alt=\"Colin Ward works as a music promotor, pictured here with Jools Holland. PHOTO: SUPPLIED<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt which gives more scope to have music directly related to 1967 appearing at the commemoration events.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Residents have been invited along to meetings to discuss ideas for the celebration and have suggestions have included live music and a fashion show.<\/p>\n<p>Rachel Morgan, from Spalding BID, said: \u201cIt is fantastic to hear that Sound Force Five are reuniting as part of the programme.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"rthmb\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg xmlns=\" http:=\"\" viewbox=\"0 0 936 708\" alt=\"Bands and Bikers in Spalding organised by Rachel Morgan and Sarah Fletcher, BID. PHOTO: Iliffe Media<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe band has such a great history with BBQ67 having played alongside legendary names so their return is a brilliant way to celebrate that heritage while bringing more live music to the town.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are really looking forward to seeing what promises to be a fantastic month of events.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The next BBQ67 meeting will take place at St Norbert\u2019s Church Hall in Spalding on Wednesday, September 9.<\/p>\n<p>What do you think?
