{"id":753773,"date":"2026-08-29T17:42:28","date_gmt":"2026-08-29T17:42:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/753773\/"},"modified":"2026-08-29T17:42:28","modified_gmt":"2026-08-29T17:42:28","slug":"barnet-hospital-care-failure-for-mum-who-died-coroner","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/753773\/","title":{"rendered":"Barnet Hospital &#8216;care failure&#8217; for mum who died &#8211; coroner"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  Anna Gaia Esposito attended A&amp;E on March 31 last year with a high temperature and a rash alongside a persistent ear infection.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The 31-year-old had the immune disorder lupus, but instead of being admitted into hospital and put onto the sepsis pathway she was sent home.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  She returned to the hospital two days later and was already in multi-organ failure caused by septic shock.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  She died in hospital on April 3.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   width=\"100%\"\/>Anna Gaia&#8217;s mum said &#8216;her love, her light, and the memory of who she was will remain with us&#8217; (Image: Fieldfisher)\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Her mum, Maria Mosaria, said: &#8220;It is deeply painful to live with the thought that perhaps some things could have been understood and addressed differently.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;As a mother, I will always carry within me the weight of unanswered questions&#8230;we will miss her voice, her smile, her presence forever. But her love, her light, and the memory of who she was will remain with us.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  North London coroner Andrew Walker found the decision not to admit Anna Gaia on March 31 was a \u201cfailure to provide basic medical care\u201d.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Mr Walker said: \u201cIt is possible and may be probable that had a further period of continued observation or admission been undertaken the outcome may have changed.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cMiss Esposito had begun only showing signs of physiological derangement and was at that point at medium risk.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   width=\"100%\"\/>Anna Gaia (Image: Fieldfisher)\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The coroner also concluded that giving steroids to Anna Gaia probably accelerated the development of the infection into sepsis, due to the fact she had compromised immunity.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hamhigh.co.uk\/topics\/barnet-hospital\/?ref=ed_direct\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust<\/a> said: \u201cWe would like to share our heartfelt condolences with Ms Esposito\u2019s family and are deeply sorry that we did not identify and treat her sepsis sooner.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;Following a thorough investigation, we have strengthened our approach to recognising and responding to sepsis.
