The project will be shot for IMAX screens, and released exclusively in theaters for formats including Dolby Cinema and 4DX. Cruise released a promotional image on Saturday celebrating Hathaway\u2019s casting and posing with his co-lead on a NASCAR track. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tCruise will reprise his role as the scrappy driver Cole Trickle. Plot details are scarce, but Hathaway is set to play a racecar team owner and engineer. Jonathan Levine (\u201cLong Shot,\u201d \u201cMr. Irrelevant\u201d) is confirmed to direct. Cruise is producing alongside Jerry Bruckheimer and Tommy Harper. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn the original, Cruise\u2019s Trickle gets recruited to a new NASCAR team by a retired racing legend (Robert Duvall). The first film also starred Nicole Kidman, Randy Quaid and John C. Reilly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tHathaway has been on a tear in 2026, with four films in theaters including \u201cMother Mary,\u201d \u201cThe Devil Wears Prada 2,\u201d \u201cThe Odyssey\u201d and \u201cThe End of Oak Street.\u201d The expecting movie star will close out the year with the Coleen Hoover adaptation \u201cVerity.\u201d She\u2019s just wrapped production on the Adam Driver military drama \u201cAlone at Dawn,\u201d and is working on a three-quel to her star-making Disney movie \u201cThe Princess Diaries.\u201d Hathaway is represented by CAA, Entertainment 360 and Apex Public Relations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe \u201dDays of Thunder\u201d follow-up is the first significant piece of IP that Cruise will engage with after ramping down the \u201cMission: Impossible\u201d franchise.
