We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.<\/p>\n<p>Your support makes all the difference.Read more<\/p>\n<p>Russian strikes have killed at least 37 people in Kyiv, most of them from a care home for the elderly, according to local Ukrainian officials. <\/p>\n<p>It marks the deadliest attack on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/ukraine\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ukraine<\/a>\u2019s capital this year, the Associated Press reports. <\/p>\n<p>The strikes hit an ammunition depot, sparking a fire in the Bucha district overnight that spread to surrounding areas.<\/p>\n<p>Dozens were injured with nearby infrastructure including residential buildings and the care facility for the elderly and people with disabilities suffering \u201csignificant damage\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/volodymyr-zelensky\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Volodymyr Zelensky <\/a>has vowed to punish those responsible and said criminal cases had already been opened on charges of official negligence.<\/p>\n<p>He described it as a \u201cterrible situation and terrible negligence on the part of those who stored explosives right next to people\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/russia\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Russia<\/a>\u2019s defence ministry said it had successfully tested a nuclear-capable intercontinental <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/ballistic-missile\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ballistic missile<\/a> that could reach the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/us\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">US<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The missile, which has a range of more than 6,700km, was fired from the Arkhangelsk region and reached its designated target at the Kura test site in Kamchatka.<\/p>\n<p>It comes just days after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/cia\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">CIA<\/a> Director <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/john-ratcliffe\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">John Ratcliffe<\/a> travelled to Moscow to warn Russia off any attack on a Nato attack according to reports.
