{"id":755135,"date":"2026-08-31T02:14:10","date_gmt":"2026-08-31T02:14:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/755135\/"},"modified":"2026-08-31T02:14:10","modified_gmt":"2026-08-31T02:14:10","slug":"personal-finance-how-much-australians-save","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/755135\/","title":{"rendered":"Personal finance: How much Australians save"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The average Australian says they are saving $928 every month, yet millions of people have only a marginal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nine.com.au\/lifestyle\/money\" class=\"sc-ZStEl fijHCo\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">financial safety net<\/a>, according to new research.<\/p>\n<p>There is a growing divide between people who have managed to build a monetary buffer and those <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nine.com.au\/australia-news\/nearly-one-in-five-australians-less-than-100-dollars-in-savings-research-reveals-20250204-p5zare.html\" class=\"sc-ZStEl fijHCo\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">living pay cheque to pay cheque<\/a>, analysis by comparison site Finder found.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"GEN23, Generic, cash payments, shopping, cost of living,  wages, withdrawal, atm, armaguard, groceries, in Sydney on April 1, 2024. \" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/5628cdbe45e51103b408002aa7e6d959e605525b.jpeg\"  width=\"100%\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"_0b53bae146db0b62 _7475dd3391ee1518\" style=\"--text-color:var(--color-text-secondary)\">While many Australians  are saving thousands of dollars every year, millions of people have less than $1000 in savings.\u00a0Dominic Lorrimer<\/p>\n<p>The average savings balance has climbed to $47,487 in August, up from $31,841 during the same month in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>But in stark contrast, 42 per cent of Australians &#8211;
