This is the amazing new street art that has just been created in York.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s on Lowther Street in The Groves and it\u2019s been created by renowned York street artist Tom Sledmore.<\/p>\n

Tom was commissioned by Door 84 Youth and Community Centre to created the mural. It was funded with a grant through the York and North Yorkshire Mayor\u2019s Vibrant and Sustainable High Streets Fund.<\/p>\n

Now based in Bristol, Tom \u2013 better known as the artist Sled One<\/a> \u2013 has worked on commissions nationally and internationally.<\/p>\n

But he was delighted to be back in his home city to create this work of art.<\/p>\n

He told YorkMix: \u201cI\u2019m really pleased with it. It\u2019s very rare that I spend over a week painting a wall, but I think it\u2019s definitely necessary for how much detail I\u2019ve got in there. <\/p>\n

\u201cAlmost everyone that comes past is really positive.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tom took inspiration from meetings with local residents before creating the piece, which combines both monotone and full colour elements.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wanted the black and white bit to look a little bit like 1920s cartoons,\u201d Tom said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s like the transition from the realistic into the more cartoony version. It\u2019s the first time I\u2019ve done this style, where I\u2019ve transitioned it from black and white into colour, but I think it\u2019s kind of a winner.\u201d<\/p>\n

We spoke to Groves resident Martin, who was impressed. \u201cIt\u2019s very good.
