Great news, everyone! Engineering has confirmed mitigation. Signing in or creating an account should be back to normal now. We appreciate the heads-up — keep them coming if anything else pops up. https://t.co/XzBd7iKgFF— XBOX Support (@XBOXSupport) September 2, 2026

Update #1 [Wed 2nd Sep 2026, 2:15pm]:

Xbox has confirmed the issue and is working on a fix.

We are aware that some users are encountering errors when attempting to sign in or create an account. Thank you for your patience while we investigate this issue. We’ll update as soon as we have more — keep an eye on https://t.co/MGxnmqdcis.— XBOX Support (@XBOXSupport) September 2, 2026

Original Story: If you’re struggling to log into Xbox Live right now, you’re not alone! We’ve noticed hundreds of reports over the past hour (since 1pm BST) mentioning that it’s been impossible to sign into the Xbox servers.

We’ve encountered the error here at Pure Xbox as well, specifically on the Xbox PC app when trying to load up a game while connected to the internet. This simply prompts an error message that says “we couldn’t sign you in to Xbox Live”, and then suggests trying again in a while.

Various people have been sharing their reports on social media:

Xbox Live is reportedly down for hundreds of gamers right now. Are you one of them? #Xbox #XBoxLive #XboxDown https://t.co/hE1ljmEbMS— StatusIsDown (@status_is_down) September 2, 2026

This could end up being a really short outage, and for what it’s worth, the official Xbox Status website doesn’t even say anything’s wrong right now. Here’s hoping it’ll be fixed in the very near future.

We’ll let you know when Xbox either provides an update or rectifies the situation (whatever comes first), but we just wanted to keep you in the loop and provide some reassurance that you’re not alone in getting this error message!

Stay tuned, and we’ll share more details as soon as we get them.
