Fontaines D.C.<\/a>\u2019s Grian Chatten<\/a> has revealed why he wore the shirt of Cwmbran Celtic football club during the band\u2019s headline set at Reading Festival 2026 <\/a>this weekend.<\/p>\n

The frontman donned the green and white jersey as he delivered an epic headline set at Reading <\/a>\u00a0\u2013 where they aired out new singles \u2018Six Shot Morning\u2019 and \u2018Marianne<\/a>\u2019 from upcoming album \u2018Dopamine Chamber<\/a>\u2019, and faced some technical issues that cut their set short.<\/p>\n

The shirt was the design made in collaboration with Mogwai<\/a>, which launched last month as the Scottish post-rock icons \u2013 as well as Super Furry Animals<\/a>, Panic Shack<\/a>, and Loose Articles<\/a> \u2013 joined forces with the football team for new 2026\/27 kits<\/a>.<\/p>\n

An exclusive, limited edition design was made for each band and proceeds from every sale were donated to the Music Venue Trust<\/a> \u2013 helping support grassroots venues and emerging talent across the UK.<\/p>\n

Speaking to BBC Wales <\/a>\u00a0about why he chose to get the Mogwai design, Chatten shared: \u201cI love Cwmbran and I love initiatives that support independent venues.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cCwmbran Celtic is a club run by volunteers who have a sense of solidarity with the plight independent music venues are facing. I think that\u2019s class,\u201d he added. \u201cAlso, I love Mogwai\u201d.<\/p>\n

After he wore the shirt at Reading, Cwmbran Celtic shared their thanks and said that it lead to pre-sales of the design almost doubling \u2013 and that they were sending him \u201ca lifetime season ticket\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re still in shock and can\u2019t thank Grian enough for the support,\u201d the club said, and Matt Jarrett, joint commercial manager for the team, shared that they didn\u2019t consider that a member of another band would be interested in the designs.<\/p>\n

\u201c[We] never expected a totally different band, who weren\u2019t on the shirt to end up wearing it on stage,\u201d he shared, adding that it was a friend of the club who worked as the monitor engineer for Fontaines, and helped him get a shirt ahead of the festival slot.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn all honesty, we thought we\u2019ll give it to him. It\u2019ll be nice for him to have it. Maybe he will wear it backstage or something\u2026 We were as surprised as anyone when we saw him walking out on stage with the shirt on,\u201d Jarrett shared.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur pre-sale orders have almost doubled from last Friday,\u201d he added. \u201cFontaines fans have gone crazy over it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The shirt is available to order here<\/a>, and 10 per cent of proceeds will be donated to the Music Venue Trust.<\/p>\n

NME awarded Fontaines D.C.\u2019s Reading headline performance four-and-a-half stars<\/a>, writing: \u201c\u2018Sorry for the short set\u2019, ends Chatten before the pure anxiety explosion of the full stop of \u2018Starburster\u2019. We hear that three songs \u2013 and reportedly another never-played-before new one \u2013 were cut from the setlist due to the delay, and we envy the people at the sister site in Leeds who we assume are going to get the full Fontaines R+L headline experience as it was intended.<\/p>\n

\u201cEither way, tonight was a deserved coronation from the band of our time, even if we didn\u2019t get them in full.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

At the following headline slot at Leeds Festival, Fontaines played new song \u2018Happy, For You\u2019 for the first time live<\/a>, before they played their first Irish show since the death of longtime manager and \u201csixth member\u201d Trevor Dietz<\/a>\u00a0when they took to the stage at Electric Picnic.<\/p>\n

The Dublin rockers will embark on an arena tour later this year, kicking off in Lisbon next month<\/a>. The UK leg starts with a show at Liverpool\u2019s M&S Bank Arena on November 20, with further shows in Manchester, Glasgow, Leeds, Birmingham and London.<\/p>\n
