Fool’s Theory, the development studio that was originally contracted to remake the first Witcher game, has changed trajectory over recent years.<\/p>\n

While the majority of CD Projekt Red is currently working on The Witcher 4<\/a>, Fool’s Theory has been pouring its efforts into Songs of the Past<\/a> \u2014 the surprise DLC for The Witcher 3<\/a>, which is due out next year.<\/p>\n

It’s also been helping out with the aforementioned sequel, which is targeting a 2028 launch.<\/p>\n

And so The Witcher’s remake has effectively been put on ice until these upcoming projects are done.<\/p>\n

Confirmation of this direction was sent to GameSpot<\/a>, in a statement that outlines CD Projekt Red’s plans to build the remake off the back of The Witcher 4.<\/p>\n

“As The Witcher Remake will be built on the foundation laid by The Witcher 4, we need to have the necessary assets, tools, and pipelines ready for efficient development,” it reads.<\/p>\n

Remember, The Witcher 4 marks the first time that the Polish company has moved away from its in-house REDengine \u2014 it’s instead being made with Unreal Engine 5.<\/p>\n

Taking all of this into account, then, we probably won’t be seeing the long-promised remake until 2029 or so. Here’s hoping that everything goes smoothly.<\/p>\n
