A number of Liverpool schools have been locked down this morning after “a communication containing a threat of violence” was sent to schools across the city. Gateacre School in Belle Vale activated its enhanced safety procedures following the threat today, Friday, September 4.<\/p>\n
In an email sent to parents and guardians this morning, the school assured them: “The school day has started safely, and all pupils and staff are safe.”<\/p>\n
The message, which was shared with the ECHO, read: “You may or may not already be aware that a communication has been received containing a threat of violence towards schools across Liverpool.<\/p>\n
“I want to reassure you that this is not being managed by Gateacre School in isolation. Our response is being coordinated with Liverpool City Council and Merseyside Police, and we are following the advice and guidance provided to us.<\/p>\n
“The school day has started safely, and all pupils and staff are safe.<\/p>\n
“As a precaution, we are currently implementing our established lockdown and enhanced safeguarding procedures across the school. These measures are precautionary and are being introduced in a calm and controlled manner to ensure that we continue to keep everyone onsite safe.<\/p>\n
“Our pupils are being supervised by staff and we are working hard to ensure that the school. remains calm and orderly.<\/p>\n
“At this time, there is no action that parents or carers need to take.<\/p>\n
“We do, however, ask for your important cooperation. Please do not approach the school grounds, attempt to come onto the school site, or make arrangements to collect or make direct contact with your child\/children unless we specifically contact you and ask you to do so as we are in lockdown. This is important in allowing us, the police and other agencies to maintain the safety.”<\/p>\n
