Wards at a Welsh hospital have been forced to close amid outbreaks of two infectious conditions, a health board has announced. The closures – to both new admissions and visitors – are affecting two wards at Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Hywel Dda University Health Board, which oversees healthcare in west Wales, said the decision to close wards has been made “due to separate outbreaks of infectious conditions”. Glangwili Hospital is managing a flu and scabies outbreak.<\/p>\n

According to the health board, Steffan Ward is affected by the influenza outbreak while Cadog Ward is affected by the scabies outbreak.<\/p>\n

Both the Steffan and Cadog wards are closed to admissions and visitors while the outbreaks are managed. “The health, safety and wellbeing of our patients, visitors and staff is our priority,” health bosses said.<\/p>\n

In a statement, Hywel Dda UHB said it is also taking additional steps to stop the infections spreading, including extra cleaning, isolating patients when required, monitoring the situation closely, and providing care and treatment for affected patients.<\/p>\n

Visitors to other wards are asked to only attend the hospital site if they are feeling well and have not been in contact with a known case of scabies in the community. Visitors are also reminded to wash their hands and follow any ward-specific restrictions.<\/p>\n

“We will be monitoring the situation closely and hope to issue an update early next week,” the health board added.<\/p>\n
