{"id":760564,"date":"2026-09-05T06:44:23","date_gmt":"2026-09-05T06:44:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/760564\/"},"modified":"2026-09-05T06:44:23","modified_gmt":"2026-09-05T06:44:23","slug":"new-york-mayor-bans-ai-for-school-children-for-this-school-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/760564\/","title":{"rendered":"New York mayor bans AI for school children for this school year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The Mayor of New York in the United States has announced a temporary ban on using generative artificial intelligence (AI) in the city&#8217;s public schools. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Generative AI are algorithms like ChatGPT that can make content based on what you ask it to make, called a prompt. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Zohan Mamdani announced elementary and middle school pupils (up to age 14) won&#8217;t be allowed to use AI over the next school year, affecting around 600,000 students.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Mayor Mamdani said: &#8220;Children need their teachers and human connection in order to learn and in order to grow.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;They need to develop skills alongside their peers, build relationships with educators and wrestle with tough problems on their own.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">What do you think, should generative AI be banned in schools?
