{"id":760824,"date":"2026-09-05T12:32:15","date_gmt":"2026-09-05T12:32:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/760824\/"},"modified":"2026-09-05T12:32:15","modified_gmt":"2026-09-05T12:32:15","slug":"beavers-released-on-exmoor-filmed-showing-signs-of-bonding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/760824\/","title":{"rendered":"Beavers released on Exmoor filmed showing signs of bonding"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Conservationists are hopeful that two bonding beavers who were released into the wild earlier in 2026 could help to strengthen the population of the creatures.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The beavers, which live on the Holnicote Estate, Exmoor, Somerset, were captured on trail cameras grooming each other.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The semi-aquatic rodents were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/ckg82lz8xj7o\" class=\"ssrcss-1e0jzsh-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">released in February<\/a> as part of the National Trust&#8217;s work to restore rivers, wetlands and floodplains on the 5,000-hectare site.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">National Trust ranger Mathieu Burtschell said: &#8220;The fact that they have paired up is a good indication that they have found the right conditions at Holnicote, with enough suitable habitat, food and space to establish a territory together.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Beavers usually live in small family groups centred around an adult pair who then typically mate for life.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Once the creatures establish their territory, their dams, canals and wetlands can help to create new habitats for other wildlife and keep water in the landscape for longer.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Conservationists are hopeful that two bonding beavers who were released into the wild earlier in 2026 could help&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":760825,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[26],"tags":[90,56,54,55,4407],"class_list":["post-760824","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-wildlife","tag-science","tag-uk","tag-united-kingdom","tag-unitedkingdom","tag-wildlife"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/760824","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=760824"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/760824\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/760825"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=760824"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=760824"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=760824"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
