PIERRE, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – Governor Larry Rhoden is partnering with South Dakota trade developments and organizations for a trade mission to the United Kingdom and Ireland this week.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis trade mission will showcase the value of South Dakota\u2019s key industries, including our world-class beef and ethanol industries,\u201d said Gov. Rhoden. \u201cBy strengthening our economic and academic ties with the U.K. and Ireland, we\u2019re keeping South Dakota Open for Opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n
Rhoden is partnering with South Dakota Trade President Jesse L.S. Fonkert, Governor\u2019s Office of Economic Development Commission Bill Even and Secretary of Agriculture and Natural Resources Hunter Roberts for the trade mission.<\/p>\n
The mission\u2019s goal is to capitalize on a recently announced trade agreement between the United States, the U.K. and the European Union.<\/p>\n
South Dakota\u2019s beef and ethanol industries were key elements of the U.K. agreement.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis trade mission is an opportunity to showcase South Dakota\u2019s producers and businesses on a global stage,\u201d said Secretary Hunter Roberts. \u201cBuilding relationships in the U.K. and Ireland opens possibilities for new partnerships, expanded markets, and helps ensure South Dakota has every chance to grow and succeed in international trade.\u201d <\/p>\n
Colleges in South Dakota will also be involved in the trade mission.<\/p>\n
Five students from the University of South Dakota will join the commission as part of their participation in the USD President\u2019s Senior Leadership Group.<\/p>\n
South Dakota State University\u2019s President Barry Dunn, will also join the mission for future collaboration with University College Dublin for academic and research opportunities.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis partnership with University College Dublin will open new avenues for research and innovation, benefiting our students and faculty while strengthening South Dakota\u2019s global presence,\u201d said SDSU President Barry Dunn. <\/p>\n
