NESS United lifted the Jewson Madrid Cup on Saturday after seeing off Lerwick Spurs at Gilbertson Park.<\/p>\n

Dylan Leishman gave Ness the lead directly from a corner before defender Tomas Smith fired them 2-0 in front.<\/p>\n

A late Lewis Harkness goal was not enough to force extra-time, and Ness instead retained a trophy they have now won three times in four seasons.<\/p>\n

SHETLAND beat Orkney in the annual women\u2019s golf inter-county fixture this weekend.<\/p>\n

The blues won 8-5 at the Orkney Golf Club in Kirkwall,\u00a0with 26 players down from Shetland with a mix of players from both Whalsay and Dale clubs.<\/p>\n

Saturday\u2019s four-ball better ball format was played in breezy but bright conditions, with Shetland securing a healthy advantage at the close of day one.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, overnight rain and a downpour on Sunday morning led to a waterlogged course, forcing Sunday\u2019s greensome to be cancelled.<\/p>\n

An enjoyable day was held in the clubhouse instead, and the Shetland team thanked Orkney for hosting.<\/p>\n

The blues look forward to hosting next year\u2019s 20th fixture in Whalsay.<\/p>\n

SOUTHSIDE Impact have been crowned winners of football\u2019s Jewson Championship, and are still on course for an undefeated campaign.<\/p>\n

The side from Sandwick have dropped just two league points all year, and will complete an invincible season if they can avoid defeat against Boca Seniors and Delting B later this month.<\/p>\n

It marks a superb achievement from the club, which is playing just its second season in the league.<\/p>\n

DIGGERS and Globetrotters continued their perfect start to the mixed volleyball league last Thursday night.<\/p>\n

Diggers first saw off Benchwarmers 3-0, starting with a 25-14 win in the first set, but Benchwarmers surged ahead to lead set two comfortably.<\/p>\n

However Diggers fought back and reeled their opponents in, before edging them out to win the second set 26-24 and seal the victory.<\/p>\n

With the win secured, Diggers were able to relax and continue their momentum to win the final set 25-14 and secure a 3-0 win.<\/p>\n

For Benchwarmers, Keira Tulloch and Jarryd Jamieson were named most valuable players, while Denise Morrison and Joel Wishart took the honours for Diggers.<\/p>\n

Venture Globetrotters then produced a dominant performance to secure a convincing straight sets win over Rexel, starting by clinching the first set 25-10.<\/p>\n

Set two was again a far closer affair, with Globetrotters just seeing off Rexel 25-20, which ensured victory.<\/p>\n

Set three was more straightforward, with a 25-12 win for Globetrotters sealing the 3-0 victory.<\/p>\n

LAST Sunday saw the Champion of Champions outdoor bowls competition played between five individuals in a round-robin format.<\/p>\n

Taking part were Caroline Smith, Anne Robertson, Andy Walterson, Ian Leiper and Willie Coutts. Missing was Colin Bain who qualified but was unable to attend.<\/p>\n

With an even number of games won, the final was played between Walterson and Leiper, with the cup being presented in due course to Leiper by president Bob Brandie.<\/p>\n

The final weekend of the season saw half the members represent the Royal British Legion and half represent the club in a 16-end triples game.<\/p>\n

The total shot score determined the winning team.<\/p>\n

The club finished by winning all but one of the games and when the shots were totalled, the Legion finished with 75 shots against the club\u2019s 109.<\/p>\n

The winning trophy was presented to the club president Brandie by the Legion\u2019s representative Ian Scott.<\/p>\n
