Unfortunately, the NHS believes that Smartphones are the most wonderful thing in earth and insists on communicating with all patients by text. It seems that no one in that organisation recognises that the majority of patients are pensioners, who cannot read the text on those tiny screens and whose arthritic fingers have great difficulty with that tiny keyboard.

I fear that we are through the halcyon time when devices like mobile phones were useful to us; Smartphones are now loaded with ‘features’ that their designers have integrated, not because anyone has asked for them, but just because it is possible. ‘Hello, I have just reorganised your photos for you.’ is typical of the stuff that is rammed down you throat, but was never asked for, and cannot be undone. My car radio has another example of a (worse than) useless ‘innovation’. The radio in my previous car worked faultlessly throughout the life of the vehicle. My present car radio suffers from an affliction called ‘DAB’, which I believe is an acronym for ‘Doesn’t Always Broadcast’. The vehicle main dealer fixed it the first time it fell silent, but soon afterwards, it was hit with a virus called ‘DAB Update’, which silenced it again. Fortunately, the proximity ‘beepers’ continue to function (so far) and I just have to do without the radio. Progress!
