Nigerian comedian and actor Ayodeji Makun, popularly known as AY, has recalled a 2019 message from Afrobeats star Asake, in which the singer sought his support for his music, years before achieving global success.

AY shared the revelation in a video on his Instagram on Monday after attending Asake\u2019s sold-out concert at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, as part of the singer\u2019s \u201cIn God We Trust\u201d tour.\n<\/p>\n

Reflecting on Asake\u2019s journey, AY said he remembered receiving a direct message from the singer in 2019, although he did not see it at the time.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cI remember when this boy sent me a message in my DM on Instagram. I didn\u2019t even get to see this message on time. This was years ago, sometime during 2019,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The message, which AY displayed in the video, was from Asake, who introduced himself as \u201cOlolade\u201d and appealed to the comedian to support his music.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cGood Evening sir. I\u2019m OLOLADE. How are you doing sir? I\u2019m here for help, KING AY. I just drop a record titled \u2013 African Something. You vibing to the song is a lot to my career,\u201d the message read.\n<\/p>\n

Asake further appealed to AY to support him, writing, \u201cKING AY, Help a son sir. May God bless you and your family. I love you KING AY.\u201d<\/p>\n

AY said he was not recounting the message to take credit for Asake\u2019s subsequent success, attributing the singer\u2019s rise to his talent, hard work and God. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not saying all of this to take any credit. That glory belongs to God and his talent and of course the hard work that is put into all of this,\u201d he said.\n<\/p>\n

The comedian said seeing Asake command the stage before thousands of people at the Houston concert reminded him of how far the singer had come.\n<\/p>\n

He said the experience carried a lesson for everyone, particularly about how they treat people who approach them for opportunities.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cThe truth is that the person asking to be seen today may become the person the whole world will celebrate tomorrow. So be good to people, respect their dreams, never look down on anyone because you simply cannot tell what tomorrow brings,\u201d AY said.\n<\/p>\n

AY also disclosed that Asake\u2019s management took him backstage after the concert, where the singer came over to greet him.\n<\/p>\n

He said Asake\u2019s humility remained evident despite his success, adding, \u201cAh Asake, you were simply phenomenal.\u201d<\/p>\n
