It took the returning player programme, a special arrangement offered to a select few, to make it possible for Koepka to go back to the US circuit earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Rahm, DeChambeau and Cameron Smith rejected that deal to stay on at LIV.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The PGA Tour has shown no enthusiasm for reinstating that arrangement but will, no doubt, be monitoring developments over coming weeks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The DP World Tour offers a pathway because the leading 10 players on the European circuit currently gain access to PGA Tour membership.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">This is the route being taken by Reed, who left LIV ahead of its 2026 season. So in the short term, it could be a boon for the European-based circuit to have the likes of Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton competing regularly next year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Potential complications lie in the details of how the PGA Tour will structure its two-tier format from 2028. How many leading DP World Tour players from the 2027 season will be eligible for the upper-tier Championship series of tournaments?<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The European tour also has to decide how to treat LIV players next season. In 2026, it struck a deal which allowed certain players, including Rahm and Hatton, to play LIV events without sanction.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">That deal is thought unlikely to be offered next year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The short answer is no and a number of LIV players are potentially facing career limbo.
