A dangerous driver who was speeding and lost control of her Audi and killed a pedestrian has been jailed<\/p>\n

Police have released the first image of a speeding driver in Birmingham<\/a> who swerved to avoid a car but struck a pedestrian as he was walking along a pavement.<\/p>\n

Maurice Middleton was out buying a paper and cigarettes in Great Hampton Street in Hockley<\/a> on Sunday, July 21, 2024.<\/p>\n

Shanise Hussain was driving an Audi A3 along the same street at speed at around 2.45pm.<\/p>\n

Hussain swerved to avoid a Jaguar in the nearside lane as it indicated and moved into her lane suddenly.<\/p>\n

She then smashed into the central reservation and careered into two pedestrians on a pavement, killing Mr Middleton.<\/p>\n

Grandfather, Maurice Middleton, 65, had his life cut short when an Audi A3 driven by Shanise Hussain at speed hit a central reservation and careered across a road onto a pavement and hit him<\/p>\n

Hussain was travelling at 48mph in a 30mph limit and had to swerve to avoid the Jaguar.<\/p>\n

She had also pressed the accelerator instead of the brake and careered onto a pavement hitting Mr Middleton, throwing him into a shop front, as well as hitting a second pedestrian.<\/p>\n

The 65-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, with the other pedestrian suffering minor head and hand injuries.<\/p>\n

Jail time<\/p>\n

Hussain was charged with causing death by dangerous driving and was found guilty of the offence at a hearing earlier this year.<\/p>\n

The 27-year-old of West Drive, Handsworth<\/a>, was jailed for four years and six months at Birmingham Crown Court last Thursday (September 3).<\/p>\n

She was also disqualified from driving for eight years and three months.<\/p>\n

The Jaguar driver was previously convicted of careless driving in relation to his involvement.<\/p>\n

‘He was the centre of our family’<\/p>\n

West Midlands Police<\/a> also issued the first image of the victim, Maurice, as his family paid tribute to him.<\/p>\n

They said: \u201cMaurice was a brilliant, kind and generous man who was loved by everyone that he met.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis death has completely shattered us a family. He was our rock; our king and he is truly loved and missed so much every day.<\/p>\n

\u201cMaurice was the centre of our family, the glue that held us all together and that is why his death has completely devastated us because it has left such a big hole in our hears that nothing and none can ever fill.\u201d<\/p>\n

Detective Sergeant Richard Evans, from West Midlands Police\u2019s<\/a> Serious Collison Investigation Unit, said: \u201cThis was a devastating incident which resulted in the loss of a life.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur thoughts are first and foremost with the victim\u2019s family, who have been supported by specially trained officers throughout this extremely difficult time.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would take this opportunity to remind all road users of the responsibility they carry every time they get behind the wheel.<\/p>\n
