Nintendo has just released a major update for the Switch 2 today, which bumps the system firmware up to Version 23.0.0. This also updates the firmware on the original Switch.<\/p>\n

This update notably adds VRR output in TV Mode (note: you may need to update your dock before you can access these settings). Handheld Mode Boost can now be toggled ‘on’ and ‘off’ from ‘Quick Settings’ as well.<\/p>\n

There’s also an update to the Mii editor, adding multiple Mii music tracks. Additionally, there is now the ability to system transfer between Switch 2, and there are a bunch of other changes and adjustments.<\/p>\n

We took the following actions in the \u201cGameChat\u201d:<\/p>\n

We\u2019ve added a feature that displays chats you\u2019ve previously participated in, in the list of chats you can join.
\nWe\u2019ve made it possible to join a new chat without selecting any friends.
\nWe\u2019ve added a button to change the screen size in the menu that appears when you press the C button during a chat.
\nWe\u2019ve added a \u201cSettings\u201d option to the \u201cVirtual Game Card\u201d list screen.<\/p>\n

You can check the registration status of the device using the virtual game card.<\/p>\n

VRR output is now supported in TV mode. When both the software and the TV support it, the video will be output at a refresh rate that matches the game\u2019s processing speed. An update to the Nintendo Switch 2 Dock is required to enable this feature.<\/p>\n

Nintendo Switch 2 now supports \u201ccomplete data transfer\u201d between two Nintendo Switch 2 consoles. You can transfer all your data, including save data and screenshots, from your Switch 2 to your new Switch 2 console.<\/p>\n

Made the following changes in \u201cSettings\u201d.<\/p>\n

Under \u201cAccessibility\u201d \u2192 \u201cText-to-Speech,\u201d we have added support for text-to-speech in Portuguese (Brazil).
\nUnder \u201cAccessibility\u201d \u2192 \u201cVoice-to-Text Conversion for Game Chat,\u201d we\u2019ve added Portuguese (Brazil) to the list of languages \u200b\u200bfor \u201cText-to-Speech Conversion.\u201d
\nWe\u2019ve made it so that the \u201cAudio\u201d -> \u201cTV Sound\u201d settings are saved for each connected TV.
\nThe item name \u201cDisplay\u201d \u2192 \u201cDock Output Information\u201d has been changed to \u201cVideo Output Information\u201d to allow users to check in detail the video signals that the connected TV can display.
\nWe\u2019ve added a \u201cVRR Settings\u201d option to the \u201cDisplay\u201d section.
\nWe\u2019ve added a feature to \u201cMii\u201d that allows you to create a QR code of your Mii and share it with other users.
\nWe\u2019ve added a feature that allows you to instantly play and check the sound when you change the volume under \u201cSleep\u201d \u2192 \u201cSleep wake-up sound when playing on TV\u201d.
\nWe have added an item to \u201cSystem\u201d \u2192 \u201cSwitch Software Operation Mode\u201d \u2192 \u201cToggle Handheld Mode Boost in Quick Settings\u201d. Turning this setting ON will allow you to toggle the Handheld Mode Boost ON\/OFF in the Quick Settings menu that appears when you long-press the HOME button.
\nWe\u2019ve added a new option: \u201cSystem\u201d \u2192 \u201cTransfer all to Nintendo Switch 2\u201d.<\/p>\n

Even if you cannot transfer the virtual game card from another console when starting the software, you can now temporarily play the software using an online license. If another console is offline and you are unable to transfer the virtual game card, the \u201cPlay with Online License\u201d button will appear. Only the person who purchased the software can play it using an online license.<\/p>\n

added a feature to play background music in the Mii editing screen. You can switch or stop the background music (BGM) using the \u201cBGM Settings\u201d button in the upper left corner of the screen.
\nRegarding handheld mode boost, we\u2019ve made it possible to use other controllers even while Joy-Con 2s are attached to the console.
\nIn the \u201cMy Page\u201d \u2192 \u201cProfile\u201d play record, play time when playing the same software on multiple consoles will now be aggregated. The games you\u2019ve played since the update will be displayed in chronological order.
\nWe have fixed several issues and improved operational stability.<\/p>\n

Nintendo Switch 1 – Version 23.0.0 (10th September 2026)<\/p>\n

The Welcome Tour update<\/a>, in particular, now allows players to play the “VRR Slider Demo” in TV Mode. Once again, the Switch 2 dock will also need to be updated via the “System Settings” and “Dock Update”.<\/p>\n
