{"id":766066,"date":"2026-09-10T10:52:10","date_gmt":"2026-09-10T10:52:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/766066\/"},"modified":"2026-09-10T10:52:10","modified_gmt":"2026-09-10T10:52:10","slug":"plans-lodged-to-upgrade-cricket-facilities-in-horsford","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/766066\/","title":{"rendered":"Plans lodged to upgrade cricket facilities in Horsford"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  Horsford Cricket Club plans to install new practice nets at the site off Holt Road.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The new equipment would support players developing batting and bowling skills in a contained training area.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Plans for the nets have been submitted to Broadland District Council.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The club was established by four local friends, led by first captain Don Raynor, and initially played friendly matches on land near its current Manor Park home.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   width=\"100%\" alt=\"The club has lodged plans to upgrade its training facilities\"\/>The club has lodged plans to upgrade its training facilities (Image: Archant)\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The club entered competitive league cricket in 1976 and enjoyed immediate success, winning the Norfolk League title in 1977 and 1978 before securing a third successive championship in 1979.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  After a temporary move during ground improvement works, Horsford returned to Manor Park in 1980, when a new pavilion was opened by former England rugby international Dickie Jeeps.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Manor Park later became one of the county&#8217;s leading cricket venues, serving as the home of Norfolk County Cricket Club from 2001 to 2024.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Today, Horsford Cricket Club runs men, women and junior teams and competes in the East Anglian Premier Cricket League, with players from across the Norwich area using its facilities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Horsford Cricket Club plans to install new practice nets at the site off Holt Road.
