Three former Springboks<\/a> have slammed All Blacks\u2019 scrum-half Cam Roigard for his \u2018simulation\u2019 in the third Rugby\u2019s Greatest Rivalry Test match in Soweto.<\/p>\n

The number nine has been accused of diving in the first half of the match after South Africa were awarded a penalty try from a scrum five metres away from the All Blacks\u2019 try line.<\/p>\n

Roigard grappled with opposing scrum-half Cobus Reinach when referee Nika Amashukeli was awarding the try, with the latter throwing the former to the ground.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy doesn\u2019t Cam Roigard get a yellow card?\u201d<\/p>\n

The All Black<\/a> was pictured holding his face after the incident as he lay on the ground, with the TMO notifying the referee of the scuffle, which ultimately led to a penalty against Reinach.<\/p>\n

Ex-Springboks<\/a> captain and centre Jean de Villiers slammed Roigard\u2019s<\/a> actions while commentating on the match for SuperSport.<\/p>\n

\u201cA lot has been said about gamesmanship, and I will call it out there; this game of ours is a pride one, and he is taking a dive there. Yes, he rips him over, but that is certainly not a tip tackle,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

De Villiers revisited the incident on the Verdict show<\/a> where he was joined by fellow former Springboks Schalk Burger and Hanyani Shimange.<\/p>\n

The All Blacks\u2019 actions irked ex-flanker Burger<\/a> in particular, who used Nigel Owens\u2019 remark to Stuart Hogg during the 2015 Rugby World Cup when the Scotland international did something similar.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy doesn\u2019t Cam Roigard get a yellow card? Instead, we get a penalty against us on the half-way line for a bit of gamesmanship,\u201d Burger said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd we\u2019ll quote Nigel Owens: \u2018They can come play soccer here next week\u2019. That\u2019s not called for in our game.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shimmy: South Africa\u2019s reserve scrum is the only one that can compete with Springboks\u2019 first-choice pack<\/a><\/p>\n

Schalk Burger slams All Blacks\u2019 scrum-half<\/p>\n

Later in the program, Burger added that Roigard or Luke Jacobson also should have been yellow-carded, as he believed that the penalty try was awarded because one of the two was offside at the set-piece.<\/p>\n

Amashukeli explained to Siya Kolisi that a yellow card was not issued as it was a collective penalty against the All Blacks and wasn\u2019t an infringement from one player.<\/p>\n

But Burger disagreed: \u201cIt should have been a penalty try, yellow card and nothing in Reinach versus Roigard.\u201d<\/p>\n

Seeking clarity, De Villiers said: \u201cSorry, you\u2019re saying penalty try, yellow card to one of the New Zealand props.\u201d<\/p>\n

Burger replied: \u201cFor whoever got penalised for offside. It was penalty advantage for the scrum, but then it was foul play in the act of scoring the try; there was foul play by being offside or not being bound to the scrum. Whether that was Roigard or Jacobson, I\u2019m not too sure.<\/p>\n

\u201cThen what happens after that, that\u2019s not a tip tackle. He didn\u2019t land on his head; he just got rolled over.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut then obviously, there was the gamesmanship \u2013 you were watching too much of the football World Cup in America. I mean, that is not allowed on a rugby field.\u201d<\/p>\n

Players need to stamp it out<\/p>\n

Former hooker Shimange has also had enough of the gamesmanship and simulation in the game at the moment, while Burger has called on players to collectively decide to bring an end to it.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe animation stuff must stop. All of them. A guy goes down; it\u2019s a possible HIA. If you\u2019ve got an HIA, then go off the field, or if it\u2019s been a high tackle, then go off the field if it\u2019s that bad,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201d You get guys now where the doctor runs on and this and the guy\u2019s holding his neck, but he\u2019s not really that sore. So, they need to cut that out of the game.\u201d<\/p>\n

Burger added: \u201cThey catch all the TMOs by that is doing that you\u2019re grabbing your head or grabbing your face. It\u2019s gamesmanship.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think the game is in a difficult phase where there\u2019s so much riding on certain events in a game and you know you can get away with gamesmanship or simulation.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s the current crop of players; we can\u2019t do anything about it. They\u2019ve got to actually sit down and say, \u2018That\u2019s not good enough\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lose respect for players<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019d lose respect for a guy if you make a tackle and slide up by mistake and hit him here [in the chin],\u201d Shimmy replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe guy animates, you end up getting a red card and suspended, when you could have just got up and said, \u2018Listen, it was a mistake. If it\u2019s fine, let\u2019s move on.\u2019 Then you shake hands, and you are meant to have a beer afterwards like, \u2018It\u2019s all good\u2019, but you\u2019re actually deliberately trying to get a guy into trouble.\u201d<\/p>\n

De Villiers ended the debate by stating that it\u2019s not the first time this year that Roigard has been singled out for simulation, with the scrum-half doing similar during the Super Rugby Pacific campaign.<\/p>\n

\u201cRoigard is an unbelievable player, and it\u2019s not just him, unfortunately \u2013 it\u2019s just the situation that he was in on the weekend. We did see him in Super Rugby; he did exactly the same,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
