{"id":766140,"date":"2026-09-10T12:32:20","date_gmt":"2026-09-10T12:32:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/766140\/"},"modified":"2026-09-10T12:32:20","modified_gmt":"2026-09-10T12:32:20","slug":"channel-4-to-merge-unscripted-units-slashing-commissioning-roles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/766140\/","title":{"rendered":"Channel 4 To Merge Unscripted Units, Slashing Commissioning Roles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/channel-4\/\" id=\"auto-tag_channel-4\" data-tag=\"channel-4\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Channel 4<\/a> is planning a significant overhaul of three unscripted commissioning departments as part of the biggest jobs cull in its 43-year history.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe British network announced on Wednesday that it would <a data-id=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2026\/09\/channel-4-confirms-300-job-cuts-1237071015\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2026\/09\/channel-4-confirms-300-job-cuts-1237071015\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">cut 340 jobs<\/a> \u2014 around 28% of its workforce \u2014 before the end of the year, with details emerging about where the axe will fall.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tChannel 4 is planning to merge three of its biggest unscripted units: Documentaries and factual entertainment; reality and entertainment; and specialist factual.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThese teams are responsible for shows including <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/the-great-british-bake-off\/\" id=\"auto-tag_the-great-british-bake-off\" data-tag=\"the-great-british-bake-off\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Great British Bake Off<\/a>, Married at First Sight, 24 Hours in Police Custody, and The Piano.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe changes, first reported by Broadcast, will mean around half of commissioning roles are at risk. One source estimated that 16 jobs will become seven. Some people are being offered voluntary redundancy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tChannel 4 declined to comment beyond Wednesday\u2019s statement about the layoffs.
