She\u2019s the woman dubbed the Queen of US Alt-Rock \u2013 a towering presence with one of the most influential bands of the last three decades.<\/p>\n

Kristin Hersh\u2019s prolific career has seen her blazing a trail at the forefront of the alternative rock scene with her band Throwing Muses.\u202f<\/p>\n

Currently in the studio working on the next offering from Throwing Muses, Hersh is also preparing for a three month solo tour to celebrate across the UK and Ireland before heading to Australia and New Zealand.<\/p>\n

The tour includes a show in the intimate surroundings of Acapela Studio in Pentyrch on October 21.<\/p>\n

Returning with a new solo record \u2018Clear Pond Road\u2019 released in September 2023, the album is a cinematic road trip; a series of personal vignettes from a fiercely independent auteur, plush with layers of atonal, edgy-dreamy strings and mellotron.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a watershed moment in a career overflowing with creative firsts and inspirational thinking, an elegant piece of personal reportage. It\u2019s a sensuous, life-affirming statement, a very personal memoir; it\u2019s the a blossoming of a true icon of independence.<\/p>\n

In 2018 Hersh announced a\u202fnew partnership with Fire Records that made possible the release of her acclaimed tenth studio album, \u2018Possible Dust Clouds\u2019.\u202fSince then there\u2019s been new releases from Throwing Muses (\u2018Sun Racket\u2019, 2020) and 50Foot Wave (\u2018Black Pearl\u2019, 2022) along with new book \u2018Seeing Sideways\u2019 (2022).<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of indie rock\u2019s most fascinating figures\u201d (The Guardian) Hersh has released over 20 solo records, with Throwing Muses and 50FOOTWAVE to date. She is the author of an acclaimed memoir \u2014 based on her teenage diary \u2014 about a particularly eventful year, titled \u201cRat Girl\u201d (\u2018Paradoxical Undressing\u2019 in the UK), which was named #8 on Rolling Stone\u2019s \u201c25 Greatest Rock Memoirs of all time.\u201d<\/p>\n

She later released her albums\u202f\u2018Crooked\u2019 (2010), \u2018Wyatt at the Coyote Palace\u2019 (2016) and Throwing Muses\u2019 \u2018Purgatory\/Paradise\u2019 (2013)\u202fas groundbreaking\u202fbooks of music, artwork, essays and lyrics. NPR Books said of Hersh\u2019s latest work, \u2018Don\u2019t Suck, Don\u2019t Die\u2019 about her friendship with the late Vic Chesnutt, \u201cNot only one of the best books of the year, it\u2019s one of the most beautiful rock memoirs ever written.\u201d\u202f<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Previously, the juxtaposition of light and dark has been essential to the drama of Throwing Muses and 50 Foot Wave, but this new record is something of a departure: more inward looking. Produced and performed by Hersh, \u2018Clear Pond Road\u2019 is quieter yet more outspoken, its inventive musical logic underpinned by the ambience of field recordings.<\/p>\n

\u201cPassion sounds less angry here, more grateful, I think,\u201d\u202f Kristin says,\u202f\u201csweeter, sadder, and somehow no less alive. Honestly? It\u2019s a love story and its erratic heart rate reflects this. As textured and raunchy as real life songs like these can get, the sonic vocabulary is delicate, so I had to respect that and keep it grounded with car engines and rain in New England, then whistling ducks and wind chimes in New Orleans. Which sounds wistful, like a blurry photograph.\u201d<\/p>\n
