The new SteamVR 2.17 update is a big one, and the first major release since the introduction of version 2.16 back in June. It seems Valve is more ready than ever to launch the Frame, but there\u2019s still no official date just yet.<\/p>\n<p>With version 2.17, Valve has made more Steam features VR-accessible, along with general quality-of-life design changes. Users now have easy access to achievements, community guides, and notes \u2013 all of which we\u2019ve taken for granted on a normal desktop setup. Many improvements also come to Steam Link, which the Steam Frame will heavily rely on as a <a href=\"https:\/\/store.steampowered.com\/sale\/steamframe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">\u201cstreaming-first\u201d<\/a> headset.<\/p>\n<p>Despite earlier speculation, a reputable leaker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcguide.com\/news\/leaker-dismisses-steam-frame-release-date-rumors-but-we-wont-be-waiting-too-long-for-valve-to-announce-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">dismissed the idea of the Steam Frame launching this week<\/a>, which kicked off with Labor Day in the United States on Monday. So far, that prediction has held, but we\u2019re keen to see what Valve may soon introduce following the big SteamVR 2.17 update. We\u2019ve got all the patch notes down below if you\u2019re looking for every detail.<\/p>\n<p>Latest PC &amp; Tech deals<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 0.9em; color: #555;\">\nPrices correct as of August 20th, 2026.\n<\/p>\n<p>SteamVR 2.17 patch notes<\/p>\n<p>General:<\/p>\n<p>More in-game Steam features are now accessible in VR, including viewing achievements, community guides, and notes.<\/p>\n<p>The Quick Access Menu (familiar to Steam Deck users) is now available on the VR Dashboard bar, integrating notifications, volume, brightness, and battery status.<\/p>\n<p>The VR Dashboard bar now exposes shortcuts to common tasks on hover, such as exiting and redocking.<\/p>\n<p>Added new slider in Quick Access to control environmental and camera brightness.<\/p>\n<p>Overlay apps can be quit directly within the dashboard.<\/p>\n<p>Improved orientation of overlays positioned above or below the player.<\/p>\n<p>Quick Access Menu shows batteries for additional VR devices.<\/p>\n<p>Refined appearance of grab handles (for moving \/ resizing frames)<\/p>\n<p>Grab handles (theater \/ dashboard \/ torn-off \/ keyboard) can be moved in depth using thumbstick<\/p>\n<p>Keep floating frames centered when resizing<\/p>\n<p>Updated Laser Mouse appearance<\/p>\n<p>Updated theater mode placement<\/p>\n<p>Recenter (long press system button) is cancellable (B button)<\/p>\n<p>Fixed cases of SteamVR dashboard bar disappearance<\/p>\n<p>Show user notification when headset framerate changes<\/p>\n<p>Move less frequently used window controls to \u201cAdditional Options\u201d Menu, and added option to toggle curvature.<\/p>\n<p>Improve dashboard placement and motion behavior. New user preference tune laser pointer length (Advanced -&gt; Dashboard -&gt; Laser Pointer Length)<\/p>\n<p>Fix missing dashboard icons for non-Steam VR apps.<\/p>\n<p>Fix stale Per-App Video Settings when switching the dialog from one app to another, then back again.<\/p>\n<p>Environment dimming now handled in a unified manner. Users may tune environment brightness in both theater and non-theater modes under VR Settings.<\/p>\n<p>Fixed some rendering issues related to dashboard \/ overlay cursor visibility<\/p>\n<p>Room view now only pauses input to apps when intentionally enabled and set to a style other than \u201cTranslucent\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fix for crash when taking screenshots.<\/p>\n<p>Fix bug with headset initialization on 3rd party headset when many body trackers are in use.<\/p>\n<p>Steam Link (Streaming):<\/p>\n<p>Improved VR streaming on slow connections<\/p>\n<p>Fix stutters when using Steam Link on NVIDIA cards.<\/p>\n<p>Fix an issue causing 1 frame to be dropped every few seconds.<\/p>\n<p>Fixed being unable to switch active laser pointer hand when using hand tracking<\/p>\n<p>Numerous stability improvements<\/p>\n<p>Adds initial support for USB streaming.\u00a0 Note: Requires new Steam Client Beta.<\/p>\n<p>Fix loading spinner flickering when framerate in game is low.<\/p>\n<p>Fix case where wrong framerates could show in SteamVR Settings.<\/p>\n<p>Latency improvements.<\/p>\n<p>Fixed scene dimming when dashboard is up.<\/p>\n<p>Added support for Contrast Adaptive Sharpening (CAS) prior to encoding. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcguide.com\/news\/steam-frame-compatible-games-hits-triple-digits-while-we-wait-for-launch-day-including-three-upcoming-vr-titles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">list of Steam Frame compatible games<\/a> grew to triple digits last week, now with 130 titles (at the time of writing) on the \u2018Great on Frame\u2019 section of the Steam store, found <a href=\"https:\/\/store.steampowered.com\/greatonframe?flavor=contenthub_all\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">here<\/a>.
