{"id":767720,"date":"2026-09-11T22:28:14","date_gmt":"2026-09-11T22:28:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/767720\/"},"modified":"2026-09-11T22:28:14","modified_gmt":"2026-09-11T22:28:14","slug":"france-train-derailment-leaves-at-least-44-injured","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/767720\/","title":{"rendered":"France train derailment leaves at least 44 injured"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">At least 44 people have been injured, including one seriously, after a passenger train derailed in northern France, local officials have said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">An 18-year-old woman was airlifted in critical condition by helicopter to hospital.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot said 180 passengers were on board the train that was operating between Rouen and Caen in Normandy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He added that 140 firefighters and other emergency teams were being deployed to the scene of the crash on Friday evening near the commune of Cl\u00e9on, just south of Rouen. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The cause of the derailment was not immediately known.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The local authorities activated a mass-casualty response plan after the crash shortly before 20:00 local time (18:00 GMT).<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Photographs later emerged showing passengers leaving the crashed train, with French media reporting that three carriages overturned.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">France&#8217;s state-owned railway operator SNCF reported &#8220;significant disruptions&#8221; on its routes in the area.
