\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s Deadline Hollywood, so I\u2019m going to set the record straight,\u201d Gary Oldman<\/a> said during an interview on Friday at Deadline\u2019s Toronto Film Festival studio.<\/p>\n

\n\tHe was, of course, referring to the recent furor <\/a>around some off-the-cuff remarks he made about the casting of James Bond <\/a>in a recent interview, and the resulting speculation that Oldman\u2019s Slow Horses<\/a> co-star Jack Lowden might be the new 007 in the upcoming Denis Villeneuve-directed Bond film<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tOldman told Deadline his words had been entirely misconstrued and spun into suggestive headlines by the media. And that he\u2019d relayed that fact to Lowden on the phone.<\/p>\n

\n\tOldman smiled as he recalled the conversation. \u201cWhat did Jack say? He said \u2018Oh, they do that kind of thing, the f*ckers.’\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHere\u2019s the official setting straight of the record from Oldman: \u201cA Canadian journalist <\/a>[from the outlet Global] asked me about Jack Lowden and the James Bond<\/a> connection. I did not bring this up. I did not offer this up. She said, \u2018So how do you feel about it?\u2019 So I said, \u2018Well, they got the six guys because they published the picture of the contenders for the role.\u2019 I said, \u2018Rumor has it that they picked someone, but they\u2019ve not announced it yet. And fingers crossed for Jack.\u2019 And they made it sound like I had a hotline to Denis [Villeneuve]! And he was feeding me the information. So they took it to the very edge of misquoting me, moved things around like they do, and it became a headline.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tOldman was in Toronto with some of the Slow Horses team (sans Lowden) as part of TIFF\u2019s Primetime lineup, which spotlights television. With him at the Deadline studio were Saskia Reeves, Christopher Chung, Aimee-Ffion Edwards, Ruth Bradley and director Adam Randall.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe\u2019re rooting for him, aren\u2019t we?\u201d Oldman said of Lowden. Looking around the room at the Slow Horses team, he received vigorous nods all round.<\/p>\n

\n\tSlow Horses Season 6 drops September 16<\/a> on Apple TV, with production already ramping up for Season 7<\/a>. In Season 6, which is based on the sixth and seventh books of Mick Herron\u2019s Slough House series\u00a0titled\u00a0Joe Country\u00a0and\u00a0Slough House, we\u2019ll see Oldman\u2019s character Jackson Lamb galvanized into action when he realizes the Slow Horses are being systematically targeted and Lowden\u2019s character River will face the return of not one, but two significant figures from the past.<\/p>\n

\n\tAs for Bond, the ultimate casting mystery remains unsolved.
